I know it's been said before, but I haven't heard anything in a little while about Premium Graphics for the Mac. CCP, we exist! |

Umm... if I'm not completely wrong the last statement was that they work on it but there are problems with the cedega/cider support for lightings, shaders and other graphic effects which must be solved first. I'm waiting for it as well, but I wouldn't count on a release of Premium on Mac or Linux before the start of winter.

Not getting premium graphics is bad, but livable... But what will happen when they roll out Ambulation?

Hmm...probably:
"We will discontinue the Mac Client. Lack of communication from the mac playerbase has made it impossible for us to develop the client up to our standards."

Edited by: Akutarou on 12/08/2008 11:00:39 I'm not sure I'm even interested in a premium client for OSX any longer. I mean, the classic client runs in a wrapper and is just...*slow* in my case. For me it's a lot slower than running the premium bootcamped. Running in a wrapper also means you need an intel cpu, meaning you could just reboot, get the speed *and* EVEMon and EFT at the same time. If the OSX client would be native and speedy I'd love not having to reboot and stay in OSX but as it is now it's a skillchanger, market check up tool. And when ambulation arrives, we'll have to run that through the wrapper as well if we want to stay in OSX...?
So in the end, in my case it's about speed or rather, lack there of. Was the same story with Civ 4.
EDIT: Eh, though in all honesty one could hope that there are other graphics improvements/optimisations in the premium that'd make a Mac premium client actually work compared to he somewhat dated classic client when it comes to the engine itself. I *do* want it, just not sure about the speed.

Edited by: Kalackas on 22/08/2008 07:04:18 Now maybe if they would just code the EVE client in OpenGL on windows, mac and linux it would be much easier to port around and still produce the awesome graphics of the premium windblows client...errr windows

Not going to happen, and CCP has also said so.
They aren't making it OpneGL and I do understand why they don't. The profit gained from the mac/linux community isn't enough to make it a reasonable choice. Windows users are where the money is. It would have probably been another matter if they had done it in OpenGL from the beginning, but to change it now. Not. I'm not sure how big the linux/mac base is in WoW, but I doubt it's not that big. It's more of an marketing trick at the moment at least. That might change in the future now that Apple is gaining ground and Blizzard has a fairly good advantage to it. They are one step ahead if the mac/linux vase becomes substantially larger. They get profit from both and with good software all around. CCP might struggle if suddenly they can only offer wrapper to do it. But, as I said. It's not the current day, might not be the future at all. It's a gamble.
