First, the legitimate whinage where it generated a ton of tears which I feel are justified...
Privateers Nerf Warp To Zero (Should have been Warp to 5) Mission Scanning Nerf
And now the ones that just generated hilarious tears that wre compeltely unjustified
Bandwidth (although the Myrm got it a little too hard) Torpedo Mk. II Both nano nerfs RSD/ECM nerf
And the ultimate being insurance nerf! Oh my goodness the insurance nerf is already the best patch since I started playing.

I think I once saw a compilation of screen captures of the Dev blog and EVE-O forums from back then that showed someone notorious, like I don't know, Ginger Magician (?) - having bought them up in massive amounts, only to discover they had been completely shafted.
You know, I was being discreet about the the Ginger thing, and now you had to go and out him again, to those who do not know a thing about him.
It was hilarious though...
BM nerf was pure drama, but for shitz and giggles the small Tractor beam BPO buy up was unrivaled - I think I even bought a few...

I will confess that I over-reacted during the big drone change when the Arbitrator went from being able to deploy fifteen drones down to only five.
I made a big fuss, and I was wrong

Happens to many but few admit it.
It was really never bothered by any of the "major" nerfs as I have always played EVE in a way as far of the beaten path as possible, so my biggest personal issues was when system security levels got changed from truncating to rounding and made some important 0.4 systems into 0.5. And of course I got royally ****ed when the Blood Raider stations got moved to Delve.
Just imagine if some of the old disasters/nerfs would be implemented today. The emorage would reach new unimaginable heights. +--------------------------+ For now I sleep and watch |

For me, I remember the drone nerf when drone capacity was dropped significantly. That raised a few eyebrows but in the long run worked well. Same with missiles as mentioned earlier.
Another big change which took adjusting too was the introduction of NPC interceptors with warp disruptors and the like. A lot of people lost a lot of money out in 0.0 as it required a rethink on NPC farming. Rethink being that you couldn't just snipe them from afar anymore and you had to consider both close combat and long/medium range.

Every time I think of the insurance nerf I laugh. Im sure 70% of these "great" nerfs that have hit eve are the result of people who cant think for themselves doing the same thing the smart players do (though, not smart enough to keep their tricks a secret), forcing the devs hands. Seriously if suicide ganking wasnt so common the devs wouldnt do a thing about it. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

Funny I remember WTZ being fairly balanced in terms of whinage. For every doomsayer beating his chest and proclaiming the end of Eve there was another guy dancing in the street singing "Hallelujah the end of instas"
Missile nerf was overwhelmingly whiney, probably due to Caldari population imbalance and the length of time they had been ridiculous. It was the perfect storm of nerf whines.

Market nerf.
You went from having an effectively limitless amount of active market orders to a new system that required training all of these "skills", and never let you get back what you lost.
This was back when the mantra was "ccp breaks your legs, then gives you a crutches skill to make up for it."
Now you can remotely buy and sell, and the market is overall better, but this one sure ****ed me off back in the day, since most of my cash was made then by selling frigs and mods in starter systems. |

Meh, nerfs don't really exist...nerfs are just re balancing issues that don't suit a certain group of players play style so they scream NERF! ...with lots of tears of course for the added over dramatic "world is ending" effect.
The people who do scream NERF! fail at understanding the whole MMO concept anyway. That being, these are persistent worlds that are continually evolving and changing as the years go by and with out game changes and re balancing they would stagnate and die. Sure they don't always work out the best for some of us but there is always a new way of doing something...that's what I love about the freedom of EVE and you really have no reason to cry about anything considering all the options available to you in this game.
If you can't move with the times and adapt to game changes you really should stick to single player games

Originally by: Schalac I never understood why people hated it because I loved his WTZ BMs he gave me.
The problem was rather than people used the system to their advantage. When I was new in EVE autumn 2005 I struggled to make a living. Was doing learning training and with the low sp we had (and me living in low sec might've added to it :D) I started off by mixing learning training with covert ops training. I sent off setting up alot of bm's.
..but, and here's the key; 95% of the BM's I sold was flukes. I kept the good BM's and gave to my friends, the BM's I sold on the open market was in most cases leading to the nub station system I started in.
It was just way too easy to bookmark scam people, for a new player that beat hauling to whining miners or trying to make a low sec living with no sp.
WTZ was pretty good, it killed my business but I'm happy we got it. |

For me it was the pulse nerf. I kicked up a real fuss about that one because at the time I thought it wrecked small pulse lasers just because the big ones were overpowered. I have to admit I was wrong :P ------ Innovation is a product of madness. |

Uh, no, a nerf is a change which makes something worse/weaker. Contrast with buff. -

the killing of low sec piracy
people cried and cried for safer lowsec access. there were long empassioned pleas about how some adjustments to game mechanics would allow lowsec to flourish and become a jump off point .
they did it and everybody's still doing lvl 4's in high sec .

Warp to zero. Yes one that I disliked and still will dislike together with a number of others.
The one with missiles made me post with the main. So it had to be one I thought of major importance.
As for the multi WMD nerf I did care less about that one myself but it was entertainment to watch the protests. Yes it was cool to have fast ships, but not critical for my kind of gameplay.
And as a sidenote, I really wish CCP do fine and keep us going here for years to come. But now we been here for 1 year in beta and 5 years of actual released game. Have they not learned by now not to wreck havoc with a working game? I could make some examples from elsewhere, the nerf that killed a game entirely. No we all know that CCP have not made such a mistake. But they have made many small ones, the result is not a major part of the player base leave at once. Instead it have been less obvious, with disgruntled players leaving in smaller numbers but over a longer stretch of time. The result of those mistakes are obvious every time we log in, with a population that could have been far larger. (And not only in Jita. Lol!)
