Oh yes, Dreamscape. The place where we came to realize our dreams.
I'll put on the "lore master" hat for a few to tell the early story of Dreamscape. If not interested just ignore/scroll down.
Dreamscape was forged through a merger between three small corporations that needed to take the next step. Mostly because their ceo's had went awol.
Elysium Fields was the largest corp of the three which was led by me after the disappearance of it's CEO Seraphim, a great tutor and role model for me.
NUKM was the second one with Cherry being the most notable member. Most people with an inclination for pvp in the Syndicate/Outer Ring area will have run across Cherry. The second member Galan felt he had been ripped off by NUKM leadership and wanted to be made the ceo of this new corp if he was ever to join such a venture. Said and done.
The smallest corp was Furious Industries led by Slater Furious and his side kick Laer.
This early history was the reason why Dreamscape came to have a system of a triumvirate. One ceo by name and two "co-ceo's". Though the original reason was to have each of the original corps represented it turned out to be a very successful way to distribute workload and responsibilities.
In a short period of time everyone had forgotten about our original corps and since I was the most driven of the ceo's the title of "CEO" was subsequently passed over to me and I'm proud to say I held it for nearly 2 years.
I want to give a shout out to Phoibos who was our master recruiter and promoted to co-ceo after Slater Furious felt this new corp wasn't for him. Teela Belwynn took over after Galan when he stepped down and the three of us ran a Dreamdscape true and steady during 2003-2005. Both myself and Phoibos left Dreamscape mid 2005 which opened up for some old faithfuls to take the helm :)
My Favourite Moments I remember a benchmark of having 44 people in corp chat (this was before 2nd accounts was a common feature) and realizing we had about 2% of the online population in corp. That'd be equivalent of some 600 ppl in corp chat today.
Achieving an atmosphere of comradery, friendship, the right to pursue personal dreams but still feel part of the group. And all this based on a three-corp merger. Anyone who has tried to merge corporations will understand the feat.
Being part in forming the early alliances. Outer Ring Society (ORS) being the first we took part in and then joining the rebel side New Outer Ring Alliance Democracy or NORAD for short. Making us a 0.0 corp since summer 2003.
The war against Zincol and S.A.S, starting early 2004, while turning something like the shire into a battle zone it deed weed out the wheat from the chaff in our growing organization. And us hard headed people that remained grew combat hardened and as a corp we adopted a stance to never surrender to another ones will and rather die fighting than yield to blackmail. I am proud to say that after a few months of trying to extort us of 600M, then 500M then 300M they eventually gave up/grew tired (not trying to start a debate on this 4 year old topic) and moved on leaving Dreamscape smaller but stronger. Too bad I sucked at leading fleets back then or we'd both have had a ton of more fun fights. On a personal note it was then I left the industrial side of EVE and went head first into pvp never to have looked back. So thank you for that Zinc ;)
Offering corp members ownership in the corp. We ran our industrial wing in a true capitalist fashion. Funded by members who bought stock in the corp and saw their share value raise with increased corp profits. We had many many members invest in the corp and many made a fair bit of isk this way.
Last but not least I'm proud and happy to have come across all the people and to have seen Dreamscape instilled with such an inherit strength that it's kept going all these years even as people come and go.
Lots of love to all Dreamers out there, old and new...here's to 5 more!
