So I know what it means but what is good DPS? and What is bad DPS? For missions it is going to be different then for PvP ofcourse so what should it be for both? This probably vexes a lot of s who dont know the math and avg. of the game?

the variations between ship classes and how they fly with their bonuses/etc make it nearly-impossible to get a "ballpark" figure of DPS outputs.
I'd say, upper limits for ship classes (COMPLETELY OPINION, DO NOT TAKE AS TRUE FACT)
Frigate: 100DPS
(this is not true for gallente T2 frigates, who can toss up to cruiser-level damage)
Destroyers: 150DPS
(varies too much, guesstimate)
Cruiser: 200DPS
(gallente cruisers, Thorax especially, can go well above this)
Battlecruiser: 150-400DPS
(Amarr's tier2 BC, the Harbinger, can easily pass this)
Battleships: 200-400+ DPS
(PvP, normally around 600+, even 800+ if they're fitted to be purely damage throwers)

Frigates 80-100 (T2 100-150)
cruisers 200-400
BC 250-700
BS 500-1200
But those numbers themselves don't mean anything, it's more about tactics/setup than raw dps most of the time.

I was going to say something about my super cheap 500+ DPS Vexor, but I guess that is a bad example as its got no tank to speak of...

Also with short range guns (such as blasters) dps can be much higher, for example my harpy can go up to 150 dps with rails (and tank) but can get to 250dps if not higher with blasters.

lol my sleipnir throws out 900dps with CS 5 and 4 gyro II's ^-^

Especially since they're unlikely to know what class of ship a "sleipnir" is, or what "CS" or "gyro" are. So it's just e-peen waving, with no useful information that might help a newbie at all.
