Edited by: dust queen on 11/08/2008 02:13:12 i'm thinking of dedicated tanks to run l5's with. gotta be caldari, no command ships, totally passive (in case of neut towers). i can kit an alt as a remote-rep BS, if necessary
how much tank do i need for most of them? can the aggro be managed without warpouts? do a few/some/most/all of them have neut towers? how many are normal space (where i can be probed and ass****ed)?
edit: i did a little eft-warrioring, and i can get sustained recharge tanks with passive hardeners around 650 dps with an onyx, and a little less with a rokh. which ship is better in this role? would the lower sig res and cruiser-sized launchers on the onyx be much of an advantage?

I'm not going to pretend that I have run a lvl 5 before because I haven't. But from what I have read about them I think might need a lot more than a 650dps tank.

in some level 5's you will need around a 2000 DPS tank
This is where logistics come into play or BS's with Shield drones and transferers...
But i completed around 30 level 5's solo in a NH just to prove it could be done.
dust queen - You are going to want to join a group of guys who run them often and take advantage of having support when you get jumped. Just be aligned at all times and as always be on the scanner looking for trouble.

By 2000 DPS tank do you mean before or after the resists? Meaning, the rats do 2000 DPS and then it's reduced by say a 75% resistance to 500DPS?

I would like to ask if 3 energy transfer arrays on a Drake would be enough to keep hardeners online even after neuts...
Also I see that there aren't neuts on all missions (and not in the same quantity), which is the average of missions that include neuts? 1/2, 2/3? (Also is true that neut towers respawn?)

Neut Towers do not respawn but on destroying them another may spawn but its a set of timed events or triggers.
Not sure on the drake but i know of a tester who used to send me info who did all his missions in his drake. He had to warp out multiple times and would take him the best part of all day solo but he would do it.
Id say 4/5 or 80% of the missions have Neut towers. If they dont have neut towers then they are normaly compensated by huge amounts of Raw DPS.

is there any other ship than a nighthawk that can passive tank that kind of dps?
and when you say 2000 dps, do you mean 2000 dps dealt by the rats? 2000 hp/s peak recharge? 500 hp/s peak recharge with 75% resists? if it's 2000 dps dealt by the rats, i can pull off that kind of tank with a resist/recharge fitted onyx and a scorpion with six large reppers flying support. if most of the DPS is coming from BSes, would the lower sig res of the onyx (210, fitted) help me avoid some damage?
i don't intend to solo the missions, just run them with a few friends in gank-fitted BSes

Some of these missions have insane DPS.
If you have a mission called "Matar Carrier" and it spawns in High sec (This is not uncommon) then the DPS in this room is so much more than 2000DPS even at 75% resists as you have to contend with all the support which is fighters.
These missions can be a nightmare even for a solo carrier if he plays the mission wrong.
But with a NightHawk and a BS in support or a logistics you can walk these missions but i always recommend that you use a NH and a BS as a NH and Logistics isnt going to field as much DPS and also with new spawns a Logistics ship is at risk.
Hope that answers your question. And hopefully i will have the site back up as of tomorrow night or wednesday afternoon

A cyclone with energy transfer logistics can tank a level 5. Use 3 shield gank links and crystals breaks 2800 DPS with T2 equipment. With no implants it's ~1900.
This is from EFT Warrior, no leadership bonuses either. Your mileage may vary. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post.

Yes you are right and it would tank if you were dual boxxing, But where is your DPS?
When running these missions you need to complete them as fast as possible. Everyone says they can tank them using a BC with 2 log ships but some of these BS's in these missions need alot of DPS just to take them down.
Also you have to remember time ratio (If thats important to you) vs isk. Also you mention a cyclone being energy transfered. This is a problem as if you get a new wave which all agro your logistics and you have to leave then the neut towers will instantly cap you dry.

You canŠt win here with pure HP without mutch resistance, DPS is yust to sick.
I done the one with the Caldari Carrier, quite hard, solotanked in a Ishtar with a Dualrepptank. The small Signature and keep moving helps against the Turret DPS, 97% Kinetic Resistence against the Missles(donŠt zoom in you will have a brutal lag). This was with 3 other BS, but no remotetanking. I got a bit lucky that that most of the neut towers aimed at the BS and my Cap Recharge was good enught to recover the Cap between the Nos(of the Carrier) and Neut cycles. Drake with some RR seams deacend, but will need lots of help because of the lower resistances. T2 Ships are a good choice here to build up insane resitances that alowes to keep up with the DPS. Also go Faction for high Resists, every 1% counts in the end.
Also i was Jammed 90% of all time in the beginning, so solo well quite hard, takes forever to take out the jammers if you can only lock one target per minute. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

MWD donŠt work without Cap.
It is possible to tank/outrun a big part of the Turret DPS with just a AB(done the old Reacon 1\3, Priate Slaugter 3. Stage and Assault vs Serpentis by this in my Domi).
But since you got neuted preaty fast, even one missed MWD cycle will mean sudden Death to a untankt ship in L5 Missions. Also lost nearly my Ishtar in a 5\10 Plex vs Angels in the last stage, beeing dualwebbed by 2 web Towers, took 3 warpouts to take them out and finaly speedtank the rest of the Stage(with a Faction AB). And this ship was Faction Fitted and well tanked. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

you mentioned "don't zoom in or you'll get lag-bombed" or something to that tune. is lag a factor in l5's? usually, i only get a small lag-spike when a whole pocket aggroes me in a l4 (in WC, i'd get a 3-5 second delay to mod activation).

Well L5 has mutch more NPCs in, if you zoom in to actualy watch 20 Missles hitting you every second it starts to lag out quite a bit a bit. I donŠt realy think the GPU is the issue here since i done it with classic Client. If you zoom out it is acceptable, something like running Missions in a System with 100-200 Players would fit, as a equal comparence(and no there where only 6 People in Local as i did this ). Might be because of the huge amount of calculation for Turrets and Missles used by NPCs, like it gets realy laggy in a bigger PVP fight if anyone deployes Drones and start moveing, looking, activate Mods and Weapons(more calculation, more Objects in space, more commands etc.) |

Cant say since RMR i have had problem with lagg in missions....
I know some have suffered with this but i think it also depends on your PC and also your connection. But we all know that having a l33t PC isnt the answer as sometimes the load on the TQ server sometimes is a little jippish
Yes i said jippish its a new word. No really !!!
Dont believe me eh?
