So I have a dream. And a jump freighter.
I am very comfortable operating in low sec and very comfortable jumping cap ships into null and low sec...even in hostile systems. Is there much profit to be made seeding low sec systems near or in "hot zones" (like old man star, tama, ammake, etc)? I don't plan on gouging (10M for a shuttle is gouging to me) but I do plan to charge appropriately for the risk involved. Is the risk of losing a jump freighter (say once every year) worth the rewards?
Anyone seed their local pirate hubs / null sec NPC zones? If so what tips and tricks can you share? Thanks! |

If you plan on operating in dangerous/high population null and lowsec systems then I suspect that the estimate of ~1 freighter/carrier loss per year to be more than a little optimistic. |

The system I have in mind is one I just in/out of all the time (a few times a week at least) and i have not lost a carrier or rorqual there yet. Cyno alts on the other hand.... ;D

Completely untrue. Assuming any loss at all is already a conservative estimation that really doesn't need to be made.

Many of the low sec "hot spots" are quite close to high sec system (like, there's a high sec system next door more often than not). Trading in those high sec systems can bring you more money because the volumes involved tend to be higher than low sec. Even in low sec "hubs" trade volumes aren't that great. I always have stuff for sale in places like that, the demand isn't great. However, usually you can sell at a decent markup. The markup doesn't affect the volume, obviously, many people who assplode stuff just seem to either buy stuff in neighboring high sec in person (a better one stop shop) or have an alt doing that, and they'll buy "emergency, need it NAO" stuff in low sec. These orders usually stay at the top of the sell order list for days and sometimes weeks, often until they sell out, so less competition. But the money trickles in to the wallet more slowly than selling the same modules at a lower margin in a busy high sec trade hub with ten times+ the volume. For me, the low sec orders I have are good alongside orders with more competition because they are low maintenance and the ISK slowly but steadily trickles in over time.
Also, some low sec hubs have low prices on the higher volume items. Somewhat lower than the neighborhood high sec (but not low enough to be obvious bait for nubs). Incidentally, you can profit from that by buying stuff there and reselling it next door for a profit (I do that sometimes).
So, is it worth it for you? I don't know, can't answer that, but I hope that what I said helps. I'm far from a pro trader and may be doing something wrong, but that's been my experience. |

Aridia could use a few JF loads of faction ammo. Doesn't matter where you drop it off. Thanks. |
