I been playing for around 3 months now and although I have amassed quite a number of loyalty points and cant get missions which give me the tags and insgnias I require for the items I want to buy with my loyalty points.
I want to buy the caldari navy cruise launchers amongst other things, can someone tell me how I go about aquiring the tags and insignias required.
Is there only specific missions that have these as rewards or do I have to rat in low security or can I only get them through markets or contracts.
It would be a big help if somebody could explain this to me
cheers

you can buy them off the market but usually you are getting kill missions for rats that drop the tag any way.

I can get the occaisional mission that will give the lower ranked tags from time to time but will missions give me the high ranked tags ie major, colonel and so on or.. do I have to rat and does it have to be in low security for the higher ranking tags.
Could you please go into more detail as to how I can aquire these high ranking tags/ insignias if i dont want to buy them
thanks

You should check out those LP offers that require tags - the benefit is hardly worth the cost. You can sell those tags for LOTS of money. The LP offers that want tags are NEVER worth it.

I wouldn't say never. I can usually sell Caldari Navy launchers (heavy and heavy assault mostly) for a nice profit, even with buying the tags and paying the LP store fee. (hint: sell them in sets, people seem to be willing to pay more if they can kit out their cerb/nighthawk/ect with one purchase)

Edited by: Mmaelstrom on 11/08/2008 15:31:55 Yeah i was just doing the sums on the market prices, and it was working out the same price for buying the tags for a caladari cruise launcher and buying 1 off the contracts market except that i would be using up my LP for nothing, So I would be just better off buying the launchers from the contract market myself.
I would still like to know how i can aquire the tags myself and would appreciate help in that

Seeing as you're caldari, just hope that you roll the 5 part mission enemies abound I'd say. That'll should get you over 100 tags, including around 50 gallente fleet commander tags.

The tags required for the Caldari Cruise Launchers drop from the level 5 missions. the level 3 and 4 missions drop the lower quality tags. The level 5 missions usually take 4 or so people to complete effectively though.

Why are you so opposed to buying the tags? Often, the only other entities that have buy orders for the tags are the NPCs at the station themselves. So for a tag with a nominal value of 50,000 ISK, you can put in a buy order for 50,000.01 ISK and the NPCs will never outbid you - thus it's generally quite easy to obtain all the tags within your order radius. And if you're thinking that it costs you more money that way - then you're wrong and haven't appreciated the concept of opportunity cost. These hypothetical tags have a specific value of 50k ISK, and no matter how you obtain them, you could have sold them for 50k, so that's what it costs you to use them. Once you realise that, you'll be glad that you're essentially able to obtain them for cost price.
So with cost out the way, the only other reason not to buy the tags would probably be time. And thinking that you can obtain them faster yourself than you can buying them... I would be extremely surprised if that were the case. Tags come from empire faction NPCs, which as far as I know only spawn within certain missions. So if you wanted to collect them yourself, you'd have to keep running missions and hoped you got those specific ones (which will also wreck your standing with that faction, btw). On the other hand, most people who get tags will just sell them off to get their "bounty" for those rats, and thus by putting up a buy order you're effectively getting the work of many people running the missions and gathering tags instead of just you.
TL;DR version: buy orders let you get tags at cost price and much quicker than you could generate them yourself. Just buy the tags.

So is 2-5million per Angel copper tag the norm or am I just in a bad system (Metropolis)? Sucks that a lvl DED requires 10 or so for the price...
Is there a chart as to what drops what? cyber nomads drop bronze like they're M&M's but I have yet to see a single copper ratting or missions.

Well looking at the buy and sell orders for the tags i need they are buying and selling for around the 500,000 and 750,000 mark so I dont think putting in a 50000 bid is going to work, or am I missing something ?

I was operating under the impression that the OP wanted empire faction tags for the LP store, rather than pirate faction tags. The pirate tags (copper in particular, for some reason it's undersupplied) are in major demand right now, since you can use them at data centres to "buy" faction standing - and with FW having a standing requirement, a lot of people have been using this to get their standing up. Consequently demand has massively outshone supply and the prices have skyrocketed.

Have a look at the NPC orders - all tags have a nominal value (which is why I put the conditional in my post), and the NPCs will have buy orders for this value. If you outbid the NPCs by 0.01 ISK they'll never raise their prices to beat you, so you'll get the tags before them every time. Though you should look at all of the sell orders anyway, as other players may be competing with you to do this, in which case you will have to either compete with them on price (and raise yours), or just wait for their orders to be filled so you can get back to buying them at the NPC price.
I wasn't claiming that you could buy any tag for 50,000 ISK - rather that the majority of tags don't have much competition, and that players are happy to sell them for a price where you both stand an excellent chance of getting them and can liquidate them for that exact same price. Thus unless you could get hold of missions against the required enemies at will, it would make more sense to put in buy orders for the tags (and even if you could, you still might as well supplement your mission-gained tags with bought ones as it doesn't take any extra time on your behalf).
