Edited by: Jenny'' JoJo on 11/08/2008 17:11:30 As per what was posted in another thread;
Server Admin: We need better and newer servers. These blades dont cut it anymore
Finance guy: Hmm, that would effect my bonus this year. How busy are the servers
Server Admin: Well... out of 100 nodes, 12 are full and the rest are around 20-30%
Finance guy: Well, players seem happy to deal with the lag. Come back when its a problem. Till then, I got to put a deposit on my new boat.......
Thats the issue right here guys. As long as players are happy to live in lag, then only a stupid Company would make it a priority to fix. A Doctor would heal the most dangerous wound first. I do not beleive CCP are aware how bad a issue lag is simply because 80% of the eve population base are happy to accept crippling lag.
My only question is this. How much of a priority is server lag atm?

Edited by: Ga''len on 11/08/2008 17:11:34 I think you need to define fleet here as your example does not apply to any specific size fleet.
In the gang PvP I have been in lately, a fleet consists of 5 on 5 and with that, modules like to lag for about 5 minutes at a time.
My favorite is when the ship blows up, the wreck appears and the pod has not shown up yet, then it shows up and the poor fellow gets insta-popped as the server catches up.
Is fixing lag a major issue that needs to be addressed immediately?
YES

Good Point. Fixed my Original Post to stand for server lag

They may have shot themselves in the foot by introducing factional warfare, tbfh. Used to be lag was something big space-holding alliances (a.k.a. the truly addicted) had to deal with, and it was a forgone conclusion that they would.
Now increasingly unplayable lag is becoming an everyday reality for "little guys" just trying to have a 20 v 20 in factional warfare or run a mission. I suspect it will be a "pain point" that people site in their subscription cancellations more and more. Especially with the new "you signed up for lag" stance on reinbursment.
I doubt all that many people are going to be willing to hole up in empire and take a "wait to see if it blows over" approach like I am. Those looking for PvP will just start looking elsewhere.

When I started playing eve (right around beta) Lag was a problem. When I got my first real character (year later) Lag was a problem. For the nearly 2 years I spent doing fleet ops in 0.0... lag was a problem.
Guess what I expect to be a problem in the foreseeable future???
Yeah, lag.
Don't get me wrong, I would enjoy this game a LOT more if lag wasn't such an issue, but I've seen CCP put a lot of effort into fixing it. Sometimes they help, sometimes not. I have to believe they are "working on it" and someday eve will deliver the 1000vs1000 fleet battles that it was born for.
Until then, I'll probably be hanging around killing pirates as the opportunity arises.
