Alright, I've been a Dominix Pilot for quite a span of time and I was wondering if it would be worth it to pursue tech II now that it has become available.
The Stealth Bombers have their use, as do Covert ops but I question the versatility and actual usefulness of the Black Ops ship.
To those 'in the know' I ask: Is the 'Sin' and its brethren Black Ops vessels worthy, do they need tweaking? Or are they made for a specific cause only?
-Thanks- Felix

The primary purpose of a Black Ops Battleship is related to their Jump Drive and Covert Jump Bridge capabilties; they can jump to a covert cyno or open a covert jump portal for 'Covert Ops' type ships to a covert cyno. They can use regular cyno fields for these as well, but that rather defeats the purpose. Without a significant fuel bay, you can't travel/move ships very far due to fuel shortages, but they can be very handy for bypassing a heavily camped system. They can be useful in combat, but they're not exactly front-line combat ships.
In short, unless you have a specific need to sneak groups of 'Covert Ops' type ships through a jump portal, Black Ops Battleships aren't all that useful. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Well.. they make nice hangar ornaments. You could always take on out to show newbs and make the "ooooh and aahhh". As for a practical use though they have none and are outshined by their Tech 1 counterparts in every aspect.

Edited by: 7shining7one7 on 11/08/2008 19:05:55 i can't fly them so i don't know the exact cause of why they are looked down upon so much.
their use would be to jump a shitload of stealth bombers and recons into a system along with a few cov op frig probers and then wreak havoc on someone.
the utility of that force would be.. a) they can all cloak b) they can probe down whatever you want probed down c) they can ecm the shit out of people, d) the stealth bombers picket delivers the sick alpha with the black ops itself as moderate muscle or support.
the black ops is really the weak link in this cause it will allow the little cov ops fleet to jump out again after they've done their business so mostly it would be in the background or provide long distance support and remote rep and some dronage.
but they aren't being used and imo i suspect it is due to
a) alliances don't utilize such squadrons very often but opt for the hp buffer battleship blob slugfest with carrier support. b) nobody has been arsed to practice with it and test it to see its feasibility c) people are not used to dividing their fleets up in such a way. d) the limited jump range of black ops deterr players from utilizing it, despite the effectiveness it most likely would be of having 50-100 cloaked stealth bombers 5-10 black ops and a shitload of recons sneaking up on snipers in a fleet battle and nuking the shit out of them, turning the tide of the entire battle. e) most people like to fly the big shit and recons and cov op squads tend to be mostly for supporting the massive blob, and not massed as a separate highly specialized autonomous squadron/fleet.
i'll make a prediction though let's see if it sticks in the future.
the ones who start massing these highly specialized cloaked squadrons operating as an autonomous unit alongside the regular blob will have a definitive tactical advantage and turn the tide in combat very fast.

just wanted to say, i hope that answered some of your questions, and i'd appreciate any feedback you guys have on this.
and if you do this please make a vid there's so much i know exactly how to do in this game but unfortunately.. the skills won't allow me to fly a redeemer just yet.. but what would be the 2nd best thing, would be someone else pulling it off, doing it how it's supposed to be done.
speaking of which, i also want to see a lolfit bhaalgorn neutatron supported by two guardians feeding it cap.. hmm maybe this particular reply should be in the video section instead.. nah.. it's related kind of.. anyways.. hope you got what you came for.

I have a sin and barely ever fly it because:
1. Takes way too much fuel to jump stuff arround. 2. Its main weapon is horribly slow drones which prevents fast ganks and fast recloaks. 3. Cant warp cloaked so its pointless in a recon gang. 4. Expensive.

Edited by: Captator on 11/08/2008 22:23:15 Basic problems with blackops (this is in reply to 7shining7one7)
a) jump range not sufficient to go behind enemy lines, merely to drop on their back edge. b) no covops cloak means you are always visible on scanner to a target you are trying to warp around and find c) no targeting delay is worthless as they have terrible scan resolution d) costs far too much fuel to move stuff around - either you move very few ships or you are on a one way trip e) they very fragile even with a pimp tank (active/passive redeemer sucks for example), and for 700m survivability is just not there.

No, it can't. It's signature resolution is BS-sized, and this is further gimped by the cloak. There will be no instapopping anything with a Black Ops ship, let alone any small stuff.

hmm yeah good points, would sensor boosters help, it seems to have rather good tracking bonuses.
hmm yeah, would probably be much more feasible if it could fit cov ops cloaking device.
still want to fly it though, by the time i'll be able to there's bound to be some changes, and there's gotta be some way to make it work properly if you max out the skills. and if not then all is not lost can allways use the jump skills for carriers.

wouldn't its tracking bonus take care of that, given that the smaller ships are not moving a whole lot. i know it has big guns but big guns can still shoot frigs and cruisers from certain ranges imo. bleh, been out of battleships too long, barely remember how it is, fly command ships currently.
