Edited by: mantium on 11/08/2008 18:48:44 I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but ill give it a shot. This is not a look at my Epeen computer stroke post. I just have a couple questions regarding the setup.
Screen Eizo 24" LCD 1920x1200 - 5ms
It was a cheap monitor so im not expecting much, Contrast was 1000:1. How is Eve working with the 1920x1200?
Mainboard Asus Maximus Extreme, X38, Socket-775
No idea how it works on gaming, but for my needs i hope its enough.
Graphic card XFX GeForce 8800GT 600M 1GB GDDR3,PCI-Express 2.0
This is what im most in doubt with, Ive read tonns of stuff on the forums about Eve killing graphix cards. I believe its the cooling that is the problem. Anyone got any experiences with this card and Eve? Ive bought some extra fans to push moar air into the cabinet.
Cpu Intel CoreÖ2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz SocketLGA775, 1333MHz, 12MB, BOXED w/fan
Never tried quad core, but how is it handling Eve?
Ram Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600MHz 4GB,Kit w/two HyperX 2GB DDR3, CL9-9-9-27
Im gonna use Windows Xp 32, so i only need 3Gb Ram, but the speed of the ram amazed me. Will i notice much difference compared to the 667 mhz i got today?
Storage Sony NEC Optiarc DVD¦RW 2 x Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA232MB 7200RPM
Thinking bout putting them in raid to enchance readin spead.
Cooling Zalman fancontrol Akasa Ultra Quiet Amber Vifte 120mm 1400 RPM 5 x Akasa Ultra Quiet Amber Vifte 92mm 1400 RPM
Im expecting the graphixcard to get hot, so I think im gonna put 3 fans on the cabinet wall blowing in and the 120 mm on the back sucking out. I also plan to use 1 fan close to each HD keeping those cold.
Powersupply Corsair Powersupply 650W
Is that enough to pull my setup?

if you're only playing eve on this you don't need anything near those stats tbh. Please keep your signature on-topic.

Im only playing eve yes, but i wish to try the premium client, and I have 3 active accounts. I could like to have them all logged in at once ^^

I was afraid of that. But the price of a quad core like that (its not eccactly the best quad core) was very similar to the price of a dual core. I figured in time i might need quadcore for something.

Edited by: Muddy Miner on 11/08/2008 18:54:51 yea I'm running 2x eve clients at once with graphics cranked up and my stuff is a similar to yours. Works flawlessly.

Yea should work find just don't turn on the HDR crap, it (in my opinion) does nothing but drive down FPS and you don't see much visually.

Hmmm well, i wish there was a way for me to cap the fps. The Nvidia card will get very hot ive heard if i dont find a way to cap the fps. What kinda cooling are you using? Is air cooling ok? Ill find a topic id like to forward to and paste it in this after the edit. Eve, a video card killer? That is the reason of my concern.

might i suggest using 2 screens, perhaps 3! use two decent yet cheap graphics cards (they exist, i use them and slaughter people at FPS games) to drive them all, forget high speed ram it's simply not gonna benefit you, dual core cpu will be perfectly good for 3 clients (don't forget to run each client from it's own directory), spend some cash on the best mouse and keyboard you can afford and a nice mouse mat too, those kinda things will enhance gameplay so much more than seemingly impressive specs.
the mobo too, looks way too expensive tbh, one half it's price could probably perform a very similar role. and I'd not raid0 1TB drives, you're asking to lose way too much data (why else have 2tb of drives unless you have a metric crapton of data).

Eizo 24" LCD ,no idea for model you bought/will buy but my knowledge is eizo makes very nice monitors .
Graphic card XFX GeForce 8800GT 600M 1GB GDDR3,PCI-Express 2.0 ,i would prefer radeon 4850/4870 with custom cooler if you still want 8800Gt get msi or gigabyte 8800Gt with zalman cooler
http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=14560
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1375&maincat_no=130&cat2_no=136#
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2720
Edit :You can change 8800Gt with 9800Gt they are same vga card basicly but 9800Gt cheaper at some places

There is a way, I'm not in game at the moment but I'll look. On advanced gfx settings, there is an interval thingy option. Setting that as '1' forces it to stick to your screen refresh rate as a maximum - can't remember specifically but I'm sure someone will be able to confirm before I get in game. (I'll edit this post if I find out the exact details)

Well hmmm money isnt really a issue, so i should order another xfx8800? As for keyboard im using diNovoÖ Logitech, but a friend of mine has borrowed it as I didnt need it on the laptop, mouse is and will always be g9 with a steelpad. The thing i need to buy is a desk :p I dont own a homedesk!
But how will those 8800s work with only air cooling? Take a peak at the link i posted earlier in this topic, about getting insane Fps. Will it also be good to have Eve installed in different folders? Why? If i may ask?

heh yeah! get a nice desk and chair of course ^_^
there is an option in the eve client to cap it's fps, 'set interval one' under advanced graphics settings, or something, i don't know about that as i've never used it. As for air cooling, well i live in england and it's normally cool in my house so air cooling works absolutely fine, provided your gpus have decent heat sinks, the ambient air temp is cool and there's plenty of airflow through your case you will be fine.
As for installing eve in different directories for each instance of the program, i found it sped things up and stopped my pc from having odd jarring moments. ymmv though.
as for eve killing peoples computers...the old client was shamefully bad and would thermally cycle peoples CPU and GPU, thus stressing the PSU endlessly for no apparent reason, which almost certainly caused some computers to die. I've not seen trinity do this though :D Please keep your signature on-topic.

the only thing that i cann really comment on is the monitor, I've got 2 eizo 19 inch monitors my self, and i must say they are very nice, and from the reviews ive read, they have a great life span for their price.

That's the one. I can confirm that my Fps didn't rise above 60 when I had it (my native screen resolution) even though with my brand new computer it's capable of 100+fps.

OP will find he just bought a pimped out Ferrari to go to the corner store and buy some smokes. The cheesiest Wal-mart budget computer for $299.99 should be able to pwn multiple classic Eve clients or run a single client using the premium graphics at acceptable framrates.

That system would be overkill for Eve, even with 3 clients.
My system is a Athlon X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) GeForce 8800GTS w/ 320MB and 8GB RAM, running Vista64.
It can run 4 clients without breaking 90% CPU or 3GB of RAM.
I can push it to run 8-10 clients if they are docked or on auto-pilot, with CPU becoming the limiting factor. I might be able to get more out of it but I haven't tried.

Hmmm apparantly it didnt work out very well. I assembled the computer today and several problems showed up at the first boot.
First message was "unknown cpu detected, uppgrade the bios to unleash the full power of youre cpu!" Then it stroke me, The mainboard i bought was compitable with nm45 cpus, Shouldnt that bios already be upgraded when i got it? I removed the bios battery to do a hard reset, then i set to factory defaults and went in to customize but i never managed to get it to work. Only thing that popped up was that, and sometimes the screen didnt get a signal at all. Its just so damn rediculus, I called them asking if there were any conflicts or parts not in storage..
They will have a choice come with a flashstick and uppgrade my bio come with a cpu that is already tested on that mainboard and assemble it themself
Else im probs gonna claim it was dead on arrival (doa) and return it while they assemble a new one for me and brings to my door within 2400 the next day.
Wish me luck :)

My Asus P5K "Supports" 45nm CPUs, but with a BIOS flash.
Had the same problem as you, downloaded the latest BIOS to a USB flash drive, plugged it in, went into the BIOS -> EZ Flashed the BIOS it shipped with to the latest and it detected my E8400 fine. ---

Hmmm ill give that quick shot. You had the same problems? Screen not starting etc? Oh but when the screen started it was like so sexy.. Well they should give some service considering I asked them if there was any conflicts etc and they said no, it will arrieve on tuesday. I assumed it was only to assemble and install.. But no..

I had the same issues when I assembled my OCZ Reaper memory with the C2D E6750 on a P35 NeoCombo board. Make sure you set the voltage settings for the ram and cpu at the recommended settings instead of the bios default and flash your bios with the latest version. Even after all that I still had to tweak the voltage by 0.01 increments before it ran stable at the rated speeds. Welcome to the do it yourself computer blues.

Yea it is usually alot new and unforseen problems when youre doing the job yourself. I work as a It manager, so i know. Well it wasnt very easy flashing this bios, as the old bios version didnt detect my flashdrive and the newest *.rom file i actually needed to run the cpu was 2mbyte so it didnt fit on a floppy. I had to first assemble a floppy drive, download a version 9.05 bios that fitted on the floppy, and with that bios it detected the flashdrive wich I had the 10.04 installed on. So it actually worked. Took me a couple hours but I learned from the experience.
I need to fit the fan control as 7 fans are running at high speed now. It kinda sounds like our server room. However im very pleased with the computer and the screen, I would gladly and proudly take some pictures of the setup as im probably as proud as a newcome father. This compter is the best thing that has happend to me ever I think.Im gonna download the premium client now I think
