I'm fairly new to trading, but not new to eve. I've spend most my time running missions and killing the few rats. But i need a greater isk income, and possibly even more frequently. Trading is - as i see it - my next easiest step from missions.
I've gotten a few suggestions to start trading implants, such as learning implants. But i dont have the capitol to start in something like that. (Yep, not enough for one implant yet. >_<). is there anything cheaper i could start with? or maybe someone could give me a helping hand with a loan? or a suggestion?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance... mentor.

Named modules is how I turned 5k into 7m in Day 1. I strongly suggest you start there until you reach about the 50m mark. Feel free to catch me on msn if you want a few tips. My contact details can be found on this site as I am not allowed to post them here. My msn and email is the same.

You could try hauling while you keep an eye out on volumes and price movement of named modules.
Garbage, for example, can provide a 50% profit margin. Other NPC goods also provide a decent return when all you've got is a few M. You won't want to trade NPC goods after you get a wallet -- but for newbies it's a way to quickly turn your 3M into 10-20M.

You could consider looking through every item on the market. miners-you can: switch, rob, wardec, nerf, scam them, buy below market, pirate them on their way to sell. mining < trading, ratting, manufacturing from market bought minerals, they still wont go away |

Same with Maestro's blog, I started a trade alt just to see how well I can fare just starting out fresh. In about a week, I made about 2 mil without any help whatsoever. And that's just like logging in twice or three times a week. So 3 mil is enough I reckon to get started.
I would advice you to start on the smaller cheaper items (such as tech 1 modules and maybe some meta 2 or meta 3 modules) and slowly work your way up. Yes, the profit would be about 3000isk per module, but think quantity. Low end modules are not so bad once you factor in volume.
So yeah, my advice for you. Hope they work for you. If you need further help, feel free to eve mail me or convo me

Forget tech 1. Named is a far more volatile market with much higher profit margins (we are talking some items easily as high as 900%). It's not overly useful with large sums of capital (multiple billions) however it's superb for the budding trader not to mention incredibly easy.
Like I said, my msn and email details are listed in the above linked page. The OP or anyone wanting tips on this are free to contact me. You could have 50 people working in the named market making a return without stepping on one another's toes.

Originally by: Anti Girl I've spend most my time running missions and killing the few rats.
This was my starting point, I made a note of the loot that I got from missions, how often and where and started creating buy orders for those items that I saw most often that had decent margins, always checking that people were actually buying them not just selling them of course.
The named missile launchers were rather kind to me when starting out, for example.
3m is more then enough to get going. Have fun, make mucho ISK I hope...

I'll just echo that named items are some of the best things for a budding trader to get into it. Off the top of my head I can name at least 5 things that have resale margins in excess of 100%. And while volumes are not always crazy or the best, its just right for someone with a starting capital of 10mil or lower.
Plus its a good training tool to get you to spot mission runnings systems, and understand how goods flow in EVE. |

3m, 100m, 1b... It will always seem like you don't have enough isk to take advantage of all the oppotunites you find in Eve.
In addition to what was posted here be sure to check the stickies at the top. A lot of the info is still good and can give you some ideas.

I would not think 3mill is enough - some people have even said invest in a gtc to get your initial funds
However, if 3mill is what you have got - go for it and I wish you luck and riches!!
Look at some items you know and check the market history for volume and buy and sell prices.
Do some hauling if you need to and train up some of the trader skills to get more orders available to you etc
Look at the history to see if you can identify where the highest price that items can be sold.
There are a Zillion ways to trade - once you start and make ISK you wont believe why you never started earlier !!

Do some missions or run NPC trade routes. A new player I know has been making about 6 mil per hour running NPC trades and her character is not even a week old yet. A few days of doing this you can make about 60 mil capital and start trading other things.

Do you mean running missions under some kind of 'trade' agent? courier missions? |

I started trading with the 5k a new character begins with. You can easily start trading with 3mil. Ricdic is right about named modules being great for a small income. Takes a bit of work, but the markup is great and it will net you a nice sum after not too long to do bigger trades.

We all started with the same amount of ISK.
This sounds so cliche, but start trading on the smaller inexpensive items and scale up from there. Named modules are always profitable.

Just in case you were responding to my comment, you will note that I said I started trading with the 5k, not that I simply started with 5k. It is false for you to claim that we all started trading with the same amount of ISK, and initial trading funds is what this thread is about.

I started with 5000 ISK and I'm almost at 2 million now within a week. And that is with relaxed playing. I'm confident my buyingpower will increase greatly with every item I sell that was bought cheaply and thus increase profit even more.

I created an ALT trader character and only used the 5000isk. With no much time put into it. At the end of 12 days I have 13mil. If I had pushed it and spent more time with him I would have done a lot better.
So yes it can be done with small amounts of isk.

I started trading with a pile of mission loot. I had dozen medium shield extenders - they sold like hotcakes. [hmmmm hotcakes] Now I'm moving named modules, low-end ships, ammo and a few t2 modules.
