Whassup forum? I been good, e' you?
I recently lost all the music on my computer to a hard drive failure, but the good thing is that I have an iPod that had all of it as well. I've poked around with the iTunes interface but the only thing it'll let me do is copy from the iTunes library to the iPod, which would effectively replace 8 gigs of music with 0 gigs of music. This would be bad.
Is there a way to actually copy the contents of the iPod to my iTunes library? ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

That seems to be all you can do to be honest. ITunes seems to be gimp'd that way.
There are other programs out there that can rip it off... The only thing is you will lose the song name. As it renames it 0003454.mp3

I know you can't do it with iTunes, but I think you can get them out using software that allows you to read the iPod as if it was a removable USB drive. Check here. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

use a program called senuti [itunes spelt backward] It automatically uploads from your ipod to a folder and then automatically back onto your itunes if i remember correctly.

and some people wonder why I don't like ipods.
if you don't have itunes installed (or if you crash all the itunes processes in taskmanager) an ipod behaves like a usb hard drive.

Edited by: Wild Rho on 12/08/2008 22:50:23 I'm not sure if you tried but when I was in a similar position I just plugged my ipod into the usb port and opened it like it was a flash stick. All my music files were there and it was just a simple copy & paste job to get them back on my HDD. The only downside was the files were all renamed to gibberish like someone mentioned above but it didn't take too long to fix that tbh.

I resent that.
Apple by far out strips many other companies when it comes to customer service.. when my ipod broke [a day late of the warrenty] they over looked it and sent sent me a brand new one within a week of me sending the damaged one to them [free laser engraving aswell].
and being an OSX and also a windows user, I can honestly say that Apple beats microsoft hands down. [Some of you don't like that statement i know] and i do admit that for gaming, microsoft is still best. Although with the new intel macs...anyways..
fact is, its an international company so there is always going to be one or two faults, like there is in -any- multi national company.

also, you didn't read the post properly, it wasn't his ipod that failed, it was his hard drive. :p
If you have the option selected, your ipod does also act like a portable hard drive, and you can just drag and drop the songs back into the correct folder on your computer. But i think senuti should do the trick :)

I love iTunes. It's a great music library tool.
I use yamipod to copy the contents of my iPod to my Harddisk and then just import it into iTunes. Another program which is just godlike is Mp3tag, which will let you fix the tags of the file before you import it into iTunes, thus saving you lotsa hassle.
This combination has helped me to finally organize and manage my gigantic music collection so I can just enjoy it.

I just use Winamp to put files on my Ipod Shuffle, and I'm also able to take files from it.
but I know my dad's mentioned suddenly having troubles doing the same with his Ipod Nano... first he could, then he installed itunes for whatever reason and then he could no longer use winamp for transfer anymore... or some such.
personally I will NEVER installed itunes ever again. it's a horrible software and whomever designed it will forever burn in hell for the travesty he or she wrought.
the end.
