Hello folks
I was considering hunting down probes from other Probers searching in my system, but I have never tried this before, and I am not even certain that it is possible. I know that a fast scanner will only have their probes out for less than a minute, so my window of scan/engagement opportunity is very limited. I was curious if someone with more experience in probing has tried this before with any success?
I understand that probes cannot scan with another probe inside their scan radius, but does this only apply to your own probes or does this include other player's probes as well? If it did include other player's probes then I guess this whole question is moot as it would be impossible to scan down probes in any case.
Thanks for your time.

You can probe other people's probes out. Just make sure your probe is in range, select "Drone & Probe" as the type to scan for, and hope you get it in time :)

And I am pretty sure the probes within scan range only affects you.
Plus you cannot do anything to other peoples probes so not sure why you would do this.
When I am probing for probes it is usually just to if there is someone else in the system doing exploration.
If you are looking for ship scanning probes you have to be really fast, and usually the prober is cloaked.

I don't know why you would want to waste ISK on probes trying to hunt down probers in your system. You can't shoot the probe, hell, you can't even lock a probe. You don't even know who owns it unless you are bored enough to actually look in local for someone whose corp has that ticker.
...now run along and find something more contructive to do, like runnin missions..

well for one, it lets you track down a good sift probe/comb/pursuit location. For two, I'd imagine you can smartbomb the probes.

Both of these points are true.
Edit: Although CONCORD won't like the smarties (as usual).

If you're talking about finding them in 0.0, this is what I recommend:
1. always fit an offlined smartbomb and warp disrupter on your recon frig. 2. locate one of the hostiles scan probes. Offline your cloak, online your smartbomb and warp disrupter. Destroy his probe. Wait right there. 3. Wait for the prober to wtf happened to my probe (sometimes it waits until the end of the scan cycle to tell him something is fubarred, sometimes it tells immediately). He will most likely warp right back to where his probe was placed, in order to put another one there. Lock him, scramble him and approach him. Continue smartbombing until he dies. (for gallente recon frigs, also use your drone bay. I don't fly them).
