if noone can afford to build one, and noone can fly one, what is the point?
Think of it as something to look forward to. And have a little patience. :) .

Who would really want a Titan anyway? A Titan is a cross between a station & an industrial ship, they are useless for heavy combat due to the small capacitors they have, about double that of a cruiser, one eighth that of a battleship. Most people I'm sure want to be fighters later in EVE, in which case you want a battleship, not a titan. If you want to be the best miner in the world, then get a Titan! Lets face it who would want to do that? __________________

From what I understand and what was said in beta, the Titans will allow a corp to forward deploy a base of opperations and set up shop where no stations exist. The Titan IS the base. It will have the ability to manufacture, process, and repair ships. Also they are supposed to be CARRIERS allowing you to take your corp with you when the titan jumps from system to system. I guess the best way to look at em is like a Death Star without the big gun--even tho they will be able to defend themselves quite nicely.
They did exist in alpha/beta -- there was a big big battle screenie of one going down in flames on the Medusa site before it switched to Gemini. Very cool looking.

if i remember correctly each titan is different. the caldari titan DOES have weaponry capabilities, in its description on eve online it states that it has enough firepower to travel without escorts. this is only the caldari titan, i believe the others may be built around armor and hauling instead. also, they will still be valuable... imagine parking one in a rich roid belt 300 jumps from home (jump drive with carrier ship) mining a few hundred thousand units of bistot, refining it, and fitting loot in the cargo with 90% of it still to spare? I heard they dropped the ability to let players dock with it.
I some how doubt we'll see a titan for a wile. There are only a few player battleships out there now and as far as I know no one has finished building a station.

The basic point with Titans is they act a bit like aircraft carriers. They contain some weaponry themselves but they are mostly there for rearming and reparing smaller ships. Titans will be the only ships able to carry the heaviest and biggest weaponry availbile in the game. (You would probaly need contacts with the empires to get this stuff, I doubt it would be sold on the open market)
As for the Titans - well as I understand it the 5 empires have about 10 titans in total between them. It may be possible for some corp to build their own at some point in the future, but the resorces it would take would be excessive to say the least. (I have heard the theory that it would take a 100 man corp about six months to mine the neccessary resorces - This is just a rumor I heard and its entirley unoffical though)
The advantages to the corp with the Titan would also be large of course.

honestly for the cost associated with titans they better have like 100,000 shield or more.... because it would be an utter waste of resources if it was less. all that would be needed is a moderate strikeforce to take a titan down in that case; completely ruining months of work that could have built 200+ battleships. Actually Digital Sin, the got about the same shielding as battleship or lower if i recall correct. They also got pretty heavy armor, about twice the b-ships, but they got like 20 times the str and +50 000 cargo. I got no ss to verify this with...guess i have lost them somewhere :(. But iam pretty curtain. __________________________________________________________ |

honestly, i don't think any corp in their right mind would let a titan run around without a full compliment of escort ships and forward scouts.
just like you don't see aircraft carriers go anywhere without the carrier group. |

Well, the Titans you're talking about were in Beta, so they probably are going to make a few changes to it, right? That's why there aren't any around at the moment... ---------------------

Hmmm, no offense sugah, but I'd love to have a Titan for mining. Not everything in this game comes out of a shooting galery.
You probably consider it weird that I like to mine the hours away, as much as I consider it odd that there are people waiting for hours at a Gate (or Jump point) to shoot down people for a 2 minute rush.
Gimme a Titan over a Battleship anyday, as I am one of those persons who draws the line of mining in her Cruiser and will consider it weird to mine in a Battleship just because it has the turret points.
Us miners 'need' a new kind of Indy/Cruiser hybrid (lacking weapon turrets) or, indeed, the Titan.
Just because we are paranoid, doesn't mean you're not out to get us. |

"its anoying me why dont they give one to one of the ccp team and fly it around show people what there like. so we know that they exist."
Actually that's just what TomB did some time ago
Titans have low shields and low armor (2400 shield, 1200 armor), but biiig structure (15000). And 15 km targeting range, lol.
But then again they have 500 000 m3 cargo space.
Hmm.. I think I saw a "base price" listed for a Titan somewhere, and it was only like 2 bil or something :<

That info you guys have is old. The newer titans that we have seen tomb flying around in TQ have about 4 times the stats of a bs. And about 10 times the capac. They are combat juggernauts.
Only thing that we can hope for is that with their release they will have weapons equal to sent guns. Not those player ones but the NPC ones.

I'll say it once and i'll say it again.
DON'T LET TITANS DISAPPEAR WHEN THE PILOT LOGS!
Tomb, Listen, don't, let, a, titan, disappear, when, the, pilot, logs!
That would allow titans to allow people to dock in them, there would not be an issue since they would NOT DISSAPPEAR. This would also make it a good investment since it's always accessible and needs to be defended.
Geesh.

Good point. If theres even a remote possibility that people can dock in them then they need to be permanent entities.
I'd sooner they sort out player stations before they even think about introudcing titans though.

I got a screenshot of a titan... herere some spec :
CPU : 720 Powergrid : 30000 Capacitor : 2300 Hi slots : 8 Med slots : 8 low slots : 8
6 launchers 8 turrets
2 targets max @ 16500m
Shield resistance : EM 0 EX 50 KI 40 Th 19
Armor resistance : EM 90 EX 19 KI 25 Th 35
Structure : 11835, rechargerate 1700 Armor : 12600 Shield : 27600
No drones Cargo size (with 8 alpha hull mod expanders 21.9% and -11m/sec to speed, -4.6% to HP)
(hang on)....2437808 m3
With these modules this are the figures... Speed is 170m/sec...Add to that 8*11=88 So it goes more or less at 258m/sec.
I don't know the specs of the guy that got that ship...

if you cant dock with it then its basically going to be the most useless ship in the game.

Here are some screenies of a Minmatar Titan (link to thread on Eve-I forums). Seems pretty cool, although I don't think we'll see them in game for looong =( It would be really cool if the CCP team went around a bit with them now and then, for show-off. Just as the GM's fly around in Concord battleships now and then. Is it so hard to roleplay a few NPC corps' doing "test-drives" with their new industrial/military equipment sort of? =) I think the game would feel very much more "alive" that way, with more events like these... Just like the cloaked Guristas Ambassadors and stuff (although I didn't see them myself). I want more roleplaying storytelling and rumours! |

If you read the interveiws, there also ships like elite frigates and destroyers, that are coming into the game.

Well that is the point. No ONEcan afford to build one. You have to work with a corp or a good group of people to do it. Same with statiopns when they come out. Lots of people or corps have to work together to make it happen.
Groups make alliances, alliance make freinds and enemeies. You build the stuff to protect your freinds and torment your enemies. You have to have one because they have one, and then two... and then it spirals out of control into an arms race. Someone looses his kewl, starts shooting, you loose one, they loose one, then two... then you make peace, replace the losses start all over again.
It's an endless brutal cycle.

Is the guy pushing a moon out of place in beta with the titan still around?
