Hi, I've recently bought a brand new headset, one ofthese.
Unfortunately even being all new and fancy, they are horrible on eve voice, they literally screech and scratch and distort, hurting everyone elses ears, they do allow clear chat now and them but it distorts and screeches around every 10 seconds making it too difficult to string a sentence together.
Currently using 2nd hand pair which cost me a couple of quid but the speaker in one of the ears is giving out, even though the microphone works better.
I don't know if it's to do with the fact they use USB instead of a jack, or that the two computers I both tested them on both used integrated sound, which may or may not have been good enough as I can't use hardware acceleration in Eve.
The headset works fine outside eve with voice recording softwhere though.
Seeing as they were worth a lot less to me as I couldn't get the mic to work I gave them away to my friend to use with his laptop as his sound is low as this is the only headset he's seen that could amplify the sound to levels he could hear well as he had bad hearing.
So I'm probably going to end up buying another pair anyway, and possibly a sound card, any suggestions?

See if your headset driver is trying to use any special feature like auto-gain control or noise cancellation, as it might interact incorrectly with the in-game voice system.

This is part of the problem, I don't quite see how they work exactly as they have no drivers so I don't know how to solve it.
They came with no cd or software, they just plug in and the computer detects an audio output device and a sound input device.

It is most likely your mic gain settings between Eve and your onboard audio. As usual, make sure your onboard audio has the lastest driver as well as your OS.
