so it seem like not only are china getting eve toys but have had an offical eve wiki for a long time.
what gives ccp the incentive to give china stuff but not bus when the playerbase is so much smaller? Are they the test?
I'm not mad at CCP I'm just wondering why they would cather to a group of people that haven't been playing as long as us. it's very strange, players have been asking for this for a long time, the wiki and the models.
weird, anyways discuss.

Maybe they are testing the feezability of the eve wiki on a smaller customer base before rolling it out for the larger group? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:
Players who post are like stars, there are bright ones and those who are dim.

The www.eve-online.com.cn website and all its components, including the wiki, are operated and maintained by our Chinese publisher Optic Communications. CCP has no involvement in the operation of the website beyond giving permission to Optic to use EVE graphics and parts of our code to facilitate the creation of the site. Yes I know people have been asking for a wiki on the western EVE site and no I don't know when we plan to launch one.
As for the items in the Chinese EVE Store that do not exist on ours, Optic have free reign to develop and produce items. We do exchange information and product samples, so something which goes into the Chinese EVE store may in due course appear in the western EVE store.
And to beat the crowd that loves to field the "But all you have to make is a tiny change that doesn't cost very much!" argument: The costs associated with creating, producing and distributing an EVE product (and here I include shipping it from the production facility to Iceland or the US) are significant due to the low item counts involved. Significant enough that any product we would consider placing in the store goes through a very lengthy evaluation process determining both quality and the price we would have to charge to make it worthwhile. In most cases, the price becomes prohibitive. No matter how many people post in the forum that they would gladly pay $50 for an EVE branded widget, when you actually ask them for the money 99% of those people vanish into the aether.

That's a very good, clear explanation Whisper, but in the particular case of the models, I would have to disagree. I would at least try it out with a smaller stock of the plastic ship models to see how it goes, locally produced (more expensive, yes, but you can gauge interest with a smaller stock).
If it goes well, you can then get production going in China. Renting a container + shipping from China is not exactly expensive. It's about $1000 USD for a full container shipped to Europe or the US...

EVE MODELS YOU FOOL! OMG.
anyways can't you get a bunch to sell at fanfest or something? I mean sure you can't mass produce them or something but sell like 100 at fanfest as a test.

Then do you at least have a possibility planned to facilitate and/or allow the import of said widgets from China? Cause even after years of different MMOs my chinese is still a bit... bumpy :D Also, as far as I know, a large percentage of the people playing EVE are also into tabletops and such, so the idea to release miniatures doesn't seem all too far fetched. Heck, as above poster said, try with a small stock, you can still hand them out as tournament trophies on the fanfests if they really don't sell....

Its matter of supply and demand as whisper said, the market is niche at best.
Also, http://www.eve-wiki.net its not perfect but it isn't too bad, its a wiki after all so you could always try adding to it

couldn't you make them in batches? You know have players order them and then once every 3 months have them built for whatever you price them at.
We'll pay damn it, we want you to have our money!

Yes, add them to the store, but have them built and shipped when a certain quota has been filled.. Seriously, everyone flies battleships, and having Mega, Tempest, Raven and Apoc available as models would probably result in alot of profit if you advertise them properly..

One thing I don't understand is...why on earth they would have to stock them anywhere else than China. If you order it, they would ship it from china (it would cost, but they wouldn't have to do anything other than to just link it).
Oh well.

Why could the Eve China shop not just open an Ebay shop and ship them all through there ?
A lot of stuff on Ebay seems to be shipped from Hong Kong already.

Edited by: Ash Vincetti on 14/08/2008 10:52:45 The price of shipping from Iceland > California isn't much different than China > California, tbh.
I think you guys need to split the eve store into America | Europe | Asia at this point, in order for shipping fees and times to be reasonable. Or just partner with your chinese side and sell & ship them all from china. When my wife's friend got married, she had them wear traditional silk kimonos that she had special ordered from a taylor shop in china, and it was cheaper to do that + have them shipped to the US, than it was to make them localy. (Actually, they mailed a "fitting" dress made from cheap materials first, we took pictures and made adjustments, then they shipped the actual garment, it was overall pretty cool) -----
