Hey there,
Im aiming to be a pirate (Yarrr) using a Minitar t1 frig from the following guide: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=501785.
In this guide I apparently need these base skills: Propulsion jamming I Electronics III Engineering III Science II Energy Emissions Systems I Navigation I High speed maneuvering I Navigation IV Afterburner IV
The thing is though, that means that chosing special forces would give more of the above needed skills. On the other hand, taking military would give me obvious bonuses in combat.
So what should I go for, Military or Special Forces?

Edited by: Aioa on 14/08/2008 12:14:24 They are just sets of starting skills. You can train any skill you like, so this choice won't hold you back.
Pick the one that's closest to the skillset you want. I'd go with special forces personally, because it gives you the ability to fit a microwarpdrive straight away*.
*almost straight away :P You'd have to train one skill to level 1

Like the above poster says, it makes very little difference. The skills that SF has that Soldier hasn't, and vice versa, can be trained in no time. In a few weeks time you'll have pretty pretty much the same skills regardless of which personality you chose.
I personally love the speed you get straight out of the box with a Minmatar SF pilot, but it's mostly just personal preference. Do whatever you feel like. There might be some edge to one or the other that I, as a fairly new player myself, don't know about, and if so someone will come in here and tell you. But it's not big enough to make the other route a "bad" one. It's worth saying again, the initial career path just let's you do a certain job well a bit sooner than another. The big difference is when making the choice between Industry, Military and Business.

Edited by: Dosgar on 14/08/2008 13:59:53 I went special forces for the simple fact that it gave me a varied and useful range of skills. Soldier or whatever would have given me T2 weapons almost straight away but I'd have to train support skills such as electronics from the start, which didn't appeal to me.
It doesn't really matter too much as Rank 1 skills can be trained to 5 in a couple of weeks, so go with whichever you prefer; T2 firepower or useful support skills.
