Edited by: The Pegasus on 03/06/2004 15:59:12 The weak point of this new system: The rising prices at a station where all lab slots are hired will only lead to more slots being hired by Megacorps, because solo players or small corps can't pay the high fees, so they loose their slots that at once will be hired by very rich persons...and i think that's not the intention of CCP for this change. _______________________________________________________________ [ 2004.04.14 12:26:17 ] (combat) <color=0xffbbbb00>Your 250mm 'Scout' I Accelerator Cannon perfectly strikes Guardian Initiate, wrecking for 172.8 damage. |

and the problem with this is........?
If you currently own a spot in a good system you can always sell it to a megacorp before you next need to pay rent

Right now the only reason ppl are aquatting on labs are since they only cost 1k every 5 days. You get that up to 1mil a rental and even megacorps will think about pulling thier 30 shuttle BPs out of the labs.
Long ago, you could never get your hands on a factory remember? What did CCP do? Upped the price and BAM now you have np finding a factory around as ppl dont want to pay 65k/5 days to squat on a factory. Same will happen w/ offices and labs when this goes in.

totally agree with the remote function comment...
The only reason I haven't cancelled rent on at least 3 of my labs 1 jump away from Lumin is because it's too much of a hassle for me to jump some ungodly distance out of my way just to remove the BPs I've got there on 1000-run ME research.
It's more convienent for me to just pay the rent and hope I one day find myself back out there.

Some players are busy researching the BPs before building stuff. Others are sitting on the BPs making copies to make money off of them that way |

This is the way it's supposed to work. Should someone making 4.25 and hour be able to buy a 5 bedroom condo in Trump Towers? Hell no.

It wont necessarily be taken by the megacorps. Although it could be the case, most megacorps that currently have stuff in research are only using them with placeholders so as to not lose the slot. They mostly have all their bps researched to acceptable levels but dont want to lose the slot. If prices go up, they'll realize that the use of the labs is not worth the costs.
The good changes far outweigh the negatives. It will help both the new and older players, large corps and small. It takes another step in reducing the ability to make endless bpcs for virtually no cost. Thus it restores the value of having an original blueprint. That goes for any kind of blueprint that you may have. The bpc problem has been a major thorn in the side of production industry ingame. Now we finally have a decent remedy. It will in the long run allow dedicated researchers to specialize their focus and make themselves a more viable career choice.
All in all a pretty good change. It's been a long time coming though. Also the office costs will be good, but it will be interesting how much of a price increase we will see from day to day. Factory slots may see more use with the costs put on labs, but shouldn't see much problems overall with plenty of factories available.

will the increase the number as well? if so then it will work out in the end. The fact that every monkey and his dog has a lab slot and likely more bps than is usefull (due to crazy availability through missions) doesn't help matters any.
it also depends on the rate of increase.
1k is very little 10k is small 100k is too much, 1 million is rediculous and anything above that is crazy... *shrugs*

I got to ask, what corp do you know has 30 shuttle blueprints being researched in the labs?
Why are they doing this to shuttles and not some other kind of print?
Are they in 1 system or spread out through Eve space?
Do they research other prints too, or just shuttles?

Why are you so interested? Its a common thing to stick a shuttle BPO in a lab slot to keep it from expiring. They will set it to cycle 1000 times and leave it, just to hold the lab slot. Its silly and has no point other than that.
I'm sure if they had another print they wanted to research they would remove the shuttle one and research the more valuable one, and then put the shuttle BP back in.

I am curious is all. Just found it funny that the original poster knows a corp that would waste 30 slots with 30 shuttles.
Do you know what corp is doing this and the corp he is referring to?
