I would like to see players experience about differences into do level 4 missions in Empire and ratting in 0.0 in a corp. What do you thinck is more profitable?

That depends on a lot of factors. The quality of the 0.0 spot, frequency of hostiles appearing, ability to resupply, etc.
In general, 0.0 ratting is slightly more profitable and L4 missions are safer & afk-able.

I've done a little of both and it's fairly even between the two at least for me. Missions are probably more profitable over all with LP ect but in a quiet 0.0 ratting is certainly easier and faster when you only need a couple of mil plus you have the chance for faction and officer spawns. Also anyone can 0.0 rat you don't need to bother with the whole standings thing ect.
Level 4s on the other hand are unless you're at war or needly dump excess money into fittings very safe so you can enjoy a book or a movie whilst earning without having to be on TS/keep an eye on local re supply may also be easier if you 0.0 market isn't well stocked.
It's all down to taste IMO, if all you want is some quick cash without having to go though all the mission melarky then blasting a few BS rats is the way to go. If you have more time or are otherwise stuck in empire, go missions.

IMO 0.0 ratting, especially in good truesec and NPC regions. Nothing can top 10m+ bounties in 10 minutes, not including loot.
Can pull some nasty isk an hour in 0.0, especially when you get a NPC space system to yourself with the chance of faction spawns.
LP vs faction spawns, static isk reward vs slighty more random isk flow.
My vote goes with the 0.0 ratting.

I've earned a large part of my money through 0.0 ratting. The trick is indeed to find a nice spot where neutrals/friendlies don't come to often and perhaps put up a pos as I did.
You gotta keep in mind that apart from 5.5 mill belts spawns and normal loot, you have a chance to catch:
- Factions spawns (dread guristas, true sansha's etc.) possibly yielding expensive implants, mods and ammo. - Officer spawns possibly yielding in the billions. - Hauler spawns yielding minerals.
Especially the hauler spawns should not be underestimated. You can frequently find 4 of the biggest haulers which yield roughly 60 mill isk a piece. Thats 240 mill for a single spawn and a little hauling.

My experience is more isk in 0.0 ratting than in level 4 mission.
But ratting is is more boring than missions and at the same time require more attention to the surrounding area (not the rats).
Then apparently I am lucky on the faction spawns (or simply I get more as I dislike chaining).

Also the loot is alot better with 0.0 rats then empire mission npc's. If you have a refinery nearby you can make a hefty ammount of money that way.

Entirelly dependds on how you count. As a steady and safe income, level 4 missions beats most of 0.0 with flying colors. If you have great space you can probably make a bit more, but only if you manage to find a system with noone else in it.

I'd have to agree. Hell, I made tons of money on bounties alone in a crappy system nobody liked because there were so many belts I could just go from belt to belt to belt, blowing up anything cruiser sized and up. Even if you don't bother to loot (back then there wasn't salvage) it didn't really matter much because by the time you got back to belt #1 on the list things were respawning.

well, it's perfectly possible to farm your own 6-belt-system with 4 possible spawns with an unreasonably overpriced BC. they respawn every 20 minutes. triple 1.55mil requires -0.45'ish already.
but that's the maximum / you won't get all those even after 10h of farming / you will not be perfectly on time
this is where we can discuss all day, but let me just pick 1mil as an average.
3 BS = 3mil thrice per hour = 9mil 4 spawns = 36mil
just bounties.
the "casual" NPCing delivers a lot less. or you need to be (west-coast) american and have your european friends pre-bred them for you.
commander spawns don't really add that much (19 domination with nothing more than ammo+tag so far). officer spawns can be juicy, depending on faction, but becomes moot in the bigger picture aswell.
hauler spawns, however, add a LOT regularly anywhere lower than -0.50 or NPC regions. bring a POS and an iteron V whenever you settle in such places. - putting the gist back into logistics |

I agree with many of the post here, but personally with my experiance (standard 0.0, not much true -1).
I've ratted in Feythablois, Cloud Ring, Fountain, Stain and drone regions.
I have mission runned in Caldari and Amarr space (with negative Quality lvl4 agents)
Ratting, for around 3 hours in system with 6 belts on my own, getting 1.4mil - 800k Spawns I usually netted 20-25mil (no loot)
Missioning in High-sec, for around 3 hours I got about 15-18mil (no loot).
So yes 0.0 is more profitable BUT in 0.0 you generally share a system or have hostiles, in those situation income for the night can drop as low as 10mil for 3 hours ratting. In Empire very little risk but a constant amount of isk.
Therefor, in my opinion, the longer term it its beeter to mission in high-sec!

Fit a cruiser, gets easier to 0.0, no need for friendly corp, or any corp, get to 0.0 and leave your jumpclone and cruiser there.
Or, get there and buy stuff.
Easy to switch to your ratting and when bad boys come knocking, just go back to missions for a while.

0.0 Ratting is more profitable hands down.
You take yourself and your alt. You drop a small POS in a system with a lot of belts in an area that is friendly to you (i.e. near a 0.0 station you can dock at).
You use your main to kill rats. Your alt comes in behind you, loots the wreck and salvages it, then drops that all off at the POS whenever they get full.
Take the loot back to the station and repro it and use it to build ships to sell (loot drops every single type of mineral). Use the salvage to build rigs to sell.
Now you make ISK from:
Rat bounties Faction bounties Selling ships Selling Rigs Best Named Loot Faction Mods

I think only half of what should be asked is actually being asked. I used to be in RoadKill and we had it easy when it came to resupplying thanks to Jita being 10jumps or so away. Those that are in deeper 0.0 regions need to consider a lot more then how much isk they can make ratting vs L4s.
You have to consider the costs of living out there. Any corp taxes? Any alliance or corp projects you need to kick even more isk in for? Who is selling what you need and for how much of a markup? Also how much isk are you losing due to hostiles catching you off guard one way or another? How much are you losing defending the area in fleets or fleet ops? What kind of ships are you supposed to use?
Its likely to be facing high markups on everything in 0.0 simply because they know people are making enough isk to not sweat it to much. L4s don't require you help defend the area from randoms without wardecs against you. There is no FC demanding you bring a t2 fitted BS or some form of T2 ship to fights that take away from your time making isk.
Its similar to making more money working in a big city, yes you might be making more but your also paying more for things. You might actually have less working in a big city then if you were making above average in a more rural area with lower costs of living. Its not really how big the number in your wallet is, its about how much you can buy with whats in your wallet.
Personally I have and have had more doing L4s then I ever did ratting in 0.0, regardless if it was off of bounties or drone shit. With FW i fight when i want and use what I want so pvp is also cheaper.

not all friendly systems with a lot of belts means lots of isk. Its sometimes its just luck if you can have the whole system to yourself. I know I had to share systems at times with others. I know ive had friendlies come in and just pop all of the frigs i left behind, before i knew what they were doing they were gone.
Solo drone ratting is probably as painful as self castration.
It all really boils down to what the player wants to do with the money they make that should influence where they go to make isk. If you want to help defend someone else's stuff,0.0 might be for you. If you like smaller fights then lowsec, empire wardecs or FW might be for you. The rewards are on par with the risks for the most part. It seems to scale so it seems as though its equal regardless of what you do.

Edited by: Ambien Torca on 15/08/2008 12:56:14 Empire wins due to no demands or interruptions from other players (no corp taxes either if you stick with NPC corp), far less risk, instant access to markets and simply because you can keep doing it at steady rate all day long. Nobody will come and mess your chains (at worst you get salvage thief but hey then you can just finish the mission and start another one and you probably won¦t really lose any isk then anyway), you can buy faction items from LP store for your own use or for sale.
Now there are few outstanding regions in 0.0 that can be very rewarding at times but in general I¦d say it¦s not worth the hassle if you just want to make money.
You can even run multiple mission accounts at the same time.

Hard to tell. Depends what 0.0 space your in.problem is most of the good ratting areas are owned by powerful alliances so unless your in one yourself or your alliance is weaker then yeah, best way to grind for isk is level IV misions.
most of the level IV agents are in busy lagged out systems so stay out of them . unless you are new player learning with low skillpoints learning the game your only risk is from lag or desynch. Or ninja looters. people stealing your mission objective to ransom back to you and that sort of thing. level IVs require more effort to complete I suppose with all the flying to gates and changing targets. ratting in 0.0 you just sit in a belt which is hella boring. lvl IVs are a bit more interesting.
Then again 0.0 is probally safer overall than hisec. no ninja looting, no people stealing your loot, no suicide gank, alliance mates giving intel on enemy targets, little risk of anything really unless you are afk. if you stay allined to station and are on voice ,watch chat and local you are fine.
In other games you grind for xp. In Eve you grind for isk. Grinding is the worst thing in all mmos. less grinding means more time to play the game which explains why lvl IVs are so popular. imo

Howmuch do you earn per hour on average? (and break it down into salvage, loot, bounties etc.)

10-20mil an hour on l4s,ignoring loot and salvage. depends on the missions you get and where they are.
I remember in gem id make maybe 15mil an hour at best. Thats assuming i got a system with enough belts to avoid sitting around waiting for respawns. That no hostiles showed up. That I wasn't called to defend bwf or other areas. Im sure I chased you and your friends around at some point.
Drone region was a lot more work, more stress and more risk. Not only risk while ratting, scooping but also while transporting the droppings to a refinery.
0.0 has to many factors to really consider how much an hour is to be made and actually be accurate. L4s, unless your in low sec or wardeced its a lot easier because the situation is far more stable. I know i never got near what people said was possible per hour on average. I guess if someone is in the rear area and doesn't give a damn about antyhing but grinding isk, your not going to find a great deal of examples to come up with an average.

Unless you find an amazing system with 0 hostiles, and get triple BS spawns on the regular, then no. High sec level 4's are far more profitable than 0.0 Ratting. BUT, if you rly want to maximize your isk/hour, make nicey nice with one of the 0.0 alliances who live in NPC 0.0 space, and run missions there. _____________________

Part of the 'risk' in 0.0 is the possibility to not make any profit at all, either because hostiles are in system, or friendlies already cleaned it out, or your corp/alliance owns crappy systems.
Then again, the POSSIBILITY of profit you can make is huge compared to hisec. Just not constant or even really dependable.
