I've come a long way in eve, from my days in a destroyer to my current fun in a Kronos. The next step is interesting because I could get a dreadnought in time or a carrier in shorter time and I'm wondering what's the better buy? I'm a dedicated mission runner, and I was wondering what is more useful in the long term.
As well, if I decided to get a carrier, which? I would train to any so long as it was survivable and useful as a means of making money and exploding things.
Thank you ahead of time for your ideas. -Felix-

erm....neither?
Capital ships aren't well designed for that. Dreads have a terrible time hitting sub-capital sized targets for significant damage (baring the Moros with drones), and solo carriers have a tendency to get ganked something fierce, and won't run missions any faster then a good marauder anyway.
Either stick with what you have, or change your style of play, join a corp/alliance that does lots of fighting, and have fun with caps online. ________________________________________________ I went to CAOD and all I got was this lousy brain tumor...

Carrier and amarr
Hardest nut to crack imo, very cap stable awesome resists.
Since you have gallente BS 5 already thanatos is second best imo but its fairly situational, don't bother training minmatar.
Also capitals don't normally make money but they offer you a fairly good way to spend it. lol.

Well for PvE neither.
The carrier is miles more useful than Dreads in my opinion. __________________________________________________

The carrier has many uses in pve which are overlooked... For instance, 0.0 cosmic anomaly sites are doable in a carrier easily. Same with radar and arc/sal sites. need an alt in a ship with codebreakers or analyzers or salvagers, but its doable.
With an alt in something with a tank, they can be effective ratters too. Sit at a pos and just assign your 15 fighters (5 per person... or 4 if you want some to yourself! :D ) to ratters in the system. Needs a big system to do this effectively, but it works.

well... if all you do is missions then youve pretty much reached end game lol.. capitals are only in lowsec and can only be used in a very select few lvl 4s and only some lvl 5s.
pimp out your kronos? cross train to a new race? buy an alt? buy a few more fun ships to make missioning different? start to pvp?
capitals are near useless for missions... however you could use a carrier to jump out to 0.0, run pirate npc missions and use the carrier to jump loot back to empire.. but still..

Since OP is Gallente specced and has isk to burn he needs to get into a Moros with T2 sentrys and station hug in low sec for lulz. Just remember to dock as soon as a Mach shows up on the scanner.

They are overlooked for a reason, because you are painting a huge target on your head, and also because other ships do the job better.

As the others have said, you already have the tool of choice for missions. A golem or paladin might do missions a little better if you're just looking for something else to train though.
If you want to venture out into low sec or 0.0 and do pve content there, a regular BS is what you should start with, anything else would attract too much attention.
If you really want to use a capital for pve stuff though, the carrier could be useful in some limited situations. You could use it to move stuff around and assign fighters to another ship while it sits in a pos but make sure you have the proper understandings of pvp land before you do this.
Dreads are highly specialized for shooting stationary targets, they are not what you want.
