Well Im sorry to be the one to inform you, but its pretty common just about everywhere on the internet, its just a common expression. This and a thousand other things you may or may not know about are a part of internet communities, you not being aware of them or part of them doesn't make it any less true.
I'm pretty sure I've heard "go kill yourself" about 300,000 times more in the past year than I've heard somebody saying "go break a leg".
