It just looks like doing a deadspace mission, really...Atmospheric flight will come in due time, when there's something more to do there
And it still makes me miss the old warp drive active voice

Make sure you watch it until about 1:35 that's when it warps over mountains!

I thought it was tossed in with Ambulation? Speculation suggests that Ambulation is either going to be launched this winter as a surprise, ot it's going to be the Spring release, as CCP just announced that they've been working on tons of new PvE missions etc to add to and enhance the PvE experiance. Again, I think we can really only guess until they actually announce it.

So I guess we don't know anything more? Nothing since fanfest 2006, when this video was recorded?

I think most of that technology was incorporated into deadspace plexes and so forth, but CCP is putting most of the development energy into ambulation

There was a thread around here earlier about that. If you want a summary of it: Not gonna happen.

Um ... yeah ...
2004 ain't that long ago.
They've mentioned in their various videos and whatnot that ambulation is a necessary precursor to atmospheric flight. It'll take probably six to nine months to see ambulation, probably another year to a year and a half before we see things that effect space but require ambulation, and I'd guess another two and a half before we see planetary flight.
One of the main problems is the playerbase. Another is developing a unique engine to handle everything. Finally, it's also got to balance out on the equipment we have now. Releasing ambulation without vastly improving server performance is going to probably be a bigger disaster than anything the anti-ambulation crowd has predicted.
I mean, if Ambulation has such wide appeal, what will 50k new subscribers do to already lagging server performance? Sure, most will be in Ambulation, but they'll probably all jump in a ship and start flying at some point, no?

hopefully they will have InfiniBand ready to go then to account for additional strain on the servers.

What is that column in the background. Kinda orange, looks like a laser from orbit. I want to be able to pummel a planets defenses before hand. Be so cool, have to be a good way to limit this because it will get abused alot. |

No clue. At the start of the video they're in a nebula of some sort. So I would assume that those are stars or pulsars, or the like. Any astrophysicists here? |

Description of Tritanium: "The main building block in space structures. A very hard, yet bendable metal. Cannot be used in human habitats due to its instability at atmospheric temperatures. Very common throughout the world."
I'm assuming a lot of human-habited planets have "atmospheric temperatures", which means ships flying in atmosphere probably tend to explode on their own a lot... |

Oh yes, I'm sure that's it.
We don't have planetary flight yet because our virtual metals are unstable in our virtual atmosphere...
Time to step away from the computer for a bit Jane.

Wait a second. If it's "very common throughout the world", then why don't the planets all blow up like randomly and frequently? :D
