I am having trouble with some level one missions and am wondering why.
Specifically, I keep getting hammered in Shadows of War 5/5. I blew almost 1 million credits in a new ship, repairs and refits and I didn't even complete the mission.
I was using a Gallente destroyer with: 4 150MM railguns, med shield repair, small armor repair and an arcjet thruster.
Most of the non-storyline missions have been easy, but this particular mission arc has been a beast.
I am thinking about just running standard missions for a while because I am not making any money the way things are now.
Any advice would be appreciated. Also, please let me know if you need more info.
Thanks!

For sarters Dont mix tank
Fit Armar rep Damage Control Unit and a Small plate
Fit an AB and Cap recharger in ya mids
Fill ya turrets slots with smaller guns if you cant fit a full rake of 150mm rails

Yep totally never mix a tank setup always go dedicated towards one.
Dont know that mission particularly well, but one thing to be aware of also is that the 150's can act poorly against frigs and a drop in turret size may be better deending on exactly what you are hitting and your skills.
Consider a rack of 75's with a tracking computer(increases optimal range and tracking speed) or 125s.
Heard of EFT? search it download it use it, also at the same place www.battleclinic.com look at other setups consider the comments etc.
Good luck.

That's one big drawback to the Galley Destroyer, the lack of mid-points.

Four guns on a Destroyer? Are most of your slots empty?
You should definately play around with EFT and look up some other standard fits on the forums (use Eve search). You should be using all your slots, even if you have to downgrade guns.

also read eve-survival.org and the mission description. you might find that you dont need to kill the rats on that mission, that can make life a lot easier Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage |

Edited by: Myung Chul on 18/08/2008 23:23:58 I ran it not too long ago in an incursus, and yeah it was a beast. I increased the drone interfacing skill up to 3, and contrary to advice I did mix tank. I tossed on a small shield extender, a kinetic deflection amplifier I, a Coreli C-type Magnetic Resistance plate, a Coreli C-Type AB, and a Coreli C-type small armor repper. in my mids and lows. I also used 3 Anode Light Ion Blasters with anti-matter in my highs and a hobgoblin 1.
On the last part I'd get aggro from the frigs in each room then run away from them while my drone took them out. Then I'd double back and get into optimal for the blasters and rely on the close range and speed against the cruisers. The last room is a pain with the State Communications Officer, but I saved him for last. I went at him when all damage was healed up and managed to kill him.
As long as they are using guns on you, using a zig-zag approach pattern helped reduce the number of hits I'd take. When they used missiles there wasn't anything I could do but absorb the damage.
Keep in mind that the Coreli stuff is as good or better than the T2 variants and isn't cheap if you are going to buy it. The AB alone will cost you...oh I'd say 2 million isk. The plate 500K, and the repper another 2 million. Not an easy mission for a frigate. |

Also, consider getting a partner. Two ships, one that is fast to draw the aggro and run around outside optimal while the other goes in and kills them. |

For what its worth, when i did this the first time, i used a tristam, and just popped cap boosters like candy to maintain my armor repper, did fine, as i circled/kited the cruiser. Second time i took a cat, 8 blasters, rammed it then orbited at about 500m and also popped boosters, can be a little pricey and keeps your cargo hold full but it was the most effective way to maintain a tank for me.

If it is any consolation I found this to be the hardest level 1 mission, harder even than some of the level 2's.
I don't have any advice other than to suggest some mission specific armour resistance plating/energized plating/hardeners; find out what type of missiles they are shooting (check the log) and get the appropriate kind of protection. |

it's the hardest lvl 1 mission ... because at the end u fight with 3 frigs and 1 cruiser, a caracal or an osprey ... frigs can jam u so u have to take them out quick while cruiser is shooting at u teh cruiser cant be kitted as it can fire from ~50 km away so either u come close or u tank
best way to finish the mission quickly is to ask for help in federation academy channel, there are always few ppl who are happy to take their t2 catalyst or incursus for a spin for old time sake., that includes me :D . |

Careful on getting close though, the State Communications Officer uses missiles as his primary weapon and will be hitting at just about any distance within 45km. Make sure you are fully repped for both shields and armor before making the run against him. Oh and he'll jam you too, which is where a drone is handy as it makes his reppers slightly less effective.
Yeah, if all else fails ask for help. I've helped out mission runners before with my main. |
