What exactly does this do? Does it lock on a target if it locks on you ? I'm not sure how this behaves if a friendly is locked...is it possible to end up firing on a fellow fleetie with this function? |

Whenever someone targets you, it makes your ship automatically target them back. This is repeated up to however many times you specify (if 5 ships target you and you have it set at 3, it will target back 3 ships, in the order in which they targetted you).
It doesn't matter if it's a friendly or a foe that locks you, it will target them back.
Advantages:
- if you're not paying attention to the Overview to see if anyone has flashy yellow brackets (they're targetting you), the auto-target-back feature will start playing the zzt zzt zzt sound as it tries to target back someone, and you're allerted that something's happening.
Disadvantages:
- it often targets the wrong person, increasing the chance that you'll activate guns on your friends etc. For example, in fleet combat, you're often targetted by your friends so they can remote-repair you, and you don't need/want to target them back.
- some people pre-activate their guns with no target, so that when they finally click on a victim, all guns go off at once, and the auto-targetting feature can screw this up royally, making those guns go off on the wrong person. |

I use it when I'm being a lame can flipper. Other than that I turn it off though. |

Thanks for the info guys, very helpful. I'm turning this feature off, I don't like too many auto functions anyway, it takes the fun out of it. |
