Hi all,
I thought you might be interested in a new site that will shortly be going in to beta testing.
 Mercs 4 Hire - target acquired
Site Services
Mercs 4 Hire provides a home on the net for mercenary corporations. Our goal is to become the first place that mercenary corporations and players alike go to when they need to promote or hire a mercenary. It is also our intention to provide the highest level of customer support possible.
Mercs 4 Hire contains a number of features that allows mercenary corporations to choose how they promote themselves and also makes it easy for a visitor to find the mercenary they need to fulfil their contract.
Designed and implemented by our in house team we believe that Mercs 4 Hire is a unique offering to mercenaries and players of EVE Online. The types of listing you can choose from or browse are highlighted below:
* Lucky 7
* Featured Mercenaries
* A - Z Mercenary
Additional Information
Mercs 4 Hire will levy a subscription fee for mercenary corporations to have a listing. This fee will vary depending upon what type of listing and payment term chosen. At this moment in time we have not finalised our fees.
If you are interested in snapping up one of the prominent slots on the site ready for when it goes live we will be offering a few spots to those that assist in the final testing at a heavily reduced rate as well as some of the other types of listings too. If you are interested in putting your name forward for one of these then drop us an email.

Interesting to see how this plays out...
Since the site is currently still just a template, it's hard to tell what the exact format is going to be. I've always been intrigued by the idea of a "job board," i.e. instead of just clients contacting mercenaries (which, by all counts, is the preferred method), but clients post jobs (with fairly minimalistic detail so as not to reveal the exact nature), and mercenary corps can contact them with prices/etc.
Maybe I'm too idealistic. Meh. Good luck with your service, I'll be keeping an eye on this. |

...just on a side note, the topic title is rather misleading, it seems to imply you are offering mercenary services rather than listing them. Perhaps add a .com or something to the end? Just a thought to get a few more views. You may also want to try contacting some of the more well-known merc corps for their support if you really want to get this off the ground.
To me, it looks like a great tool. Hopefully the fees are reasonable and it is well advertised. An EON ad would no doubt do wonders for popularity.
Just some random thoughts off the top of my head. Flame as necessary.

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions, these really do help us and we have already had an about turn with one aspect of the site due to feedback. It meant we had to spend a lot more time redoing this area but if something is worth doing it is worth doing right eh?
Have to admit that we are not familiar with who the big players are in the mercenary world so if anyone can help out here with a few names it would be much appreciated.
We fully agree that becoming well known is one of the keys to success so we will explore any avenues open to us with regards to advertising. We do however have to way up the costs when doing this as the motivation behind this site is providing a unique service to the players of EVE without charging an arm and a leg in the process. Suffice to say we are optimistic that the fees we will levy on mercenary corporations that are listed and also have access to contracts posted by non fee payers will not be viewed as excessive by you the players of Eve.
If you are a mercenary corporation that would be interested in featuring on this site drop us an email ([email protected]) with your corporation name and we will update you with pricing and details nearer to launch.

Layout seems nice, although IMO too many sidebar/border things which are a little confusing. Will be nice to see what it's like with some actual names on there!

And no tables in the sites markup! <3
Few reservations about the site though:
1) The javascript effects are overused.
2) The typography (especially the "Featured Mercs") is not nice.
3) The layout is cluttered, and too dark (I realise a dark theme fits in, but IMO it's a little too dark for the use you intend to have).
4) The primary navigation seems ambigious at first glance, and while is learnable isn't intuitive like it should be (Like, what's the difference between Mercs 4 Hire and Merc Clients? What's the difference between Join Mercs 4 Hire and Work for Mercs 4 Hire?).
Other than those issues, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens :)

Many thanks for these constructive personal opinions. You raise some good points and the navigation has been adjusted as you were spot on! Easy for us to navigate as we know where everything is but it would take time for someone new to the site to learn. Other changes being made on a regular basis.
Anyone know who the big players are in the merc world?

Thank you very much for your continued assistance with this, it really is appreciated.
As a side note we are talking to the publishers of Eon to see if we can feature in the next issue available which is out in October but deadlines are very tight so it might have to wait for the following issue.
