Hi :) I've never used combat drones before, and I see that the big ones seem to all be 150m3. I fly an Omen, which has 400 m3 drones capacity, and I want the drones to protect me while I mine in 0.6 space. Will 2 drones be able to handle the waves of rats? Or will I need to sacrifice one of my miner 2s for a laser? Thanks :)

At your level, you probably won't be able to use Heavy Drones (250 m3) as they require Drones 5. You can use medium drones, which take up 100 m3 or light drones, which use 50 m3. I suggest using medium drones, namely the Hammerheads. Infiltrators are good too if you want to take shields down faster. Also make sure you have the Scout Drone skill first. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Eww, Drones 5 >_< Guess I'll stick with 4 Hammerheads :) But will they be able to take care of 0.6 rats? I'm running into groups of about 3 rats, ranging from 3k to 7k.

4 hammerheads will keep you rat free till you decide to got down to .4 then you will need protection infact 4 hammerheads is a little bit overkill but less chancer of losing one .

4 mediums are certainly enough to go into .5 and higher.
Trick of the trade: Let the rats target you first best is even to wait till they are shooting at you. You can see this on your scanner. Then launch all drones in 1 wave and give them attack command. They ll go out and kill the rat wave without getting shot at. An additional advantage is that you can just loot without having to move. Those pirate cans contain good recycle stuff in most cases or free ammo, guns, etc.
In case you dont know how to launch all : right click in your drone bay/select all/right click a drone/launch.
Repairing drones: in station, click on repair facility/repair all/click in drone bay/select all/repackage. Bit complex but only way to repair drones fast. Without repackage repair will not be done.

No what he means is let them come close to you. As close as they have to. Let them shoot you and then release the drones. This way drones will kill rats near you and you can check out their loot (since they were that close to begin with)
But yeah. Gallente are most blessed with drones. Mining in thorax in 0.4 with 8 ogres and can take out two cruiser spawns ---------------------- I make up with stupidity for the rest of my corporation.

As stated multiple times above, 4 hammerheads will do the job. But make sure you can take a few rounds from those rats, because sometimes it might take the drones a bit longer to wack those rats.

For the record, heavy drones is 250 m3, and not 150 m3 as you said originally.
Secondly, an Omen only have 300 m3 dronebay, not 400m3.
And yes, 3 hammerheads is plenty to keep you defended in 0.5+.
