If the ceo of a corp wants to dramatically reduce the chance of members stealing or scamming from the corp they can require names and addresses of all applicants.
With this information, even if the member tries to hide or reroll a new character, the thief can be called up or even visited, and in some countries even taken to court over the losses.
Just something for CEO's to consider as a way to reduce paranoia about new members. |

This is a game.. Since when is it ok to drop by a person that killed you in counterstrike and *****slap him?
In game fraud has nothing to do with irl.. If you are stupid enough to get scammed then you deserved it.
If you are a paranoid CEO then dont hand out roles or hangar access.. |

This sounds like a brilliant idea. Thankfully all potential thieves and scammers would never give false personal information.
How about requesting 2 forms of personal ID before accepting new members. Maybe a copy of their passport and driving license and a current utility bill? You could also hire a private detective agency to background check them.

to dont give public access to the damn cookie jar.... its simple. Sitar can i join your corp?! it would be pretty funny if someone flew 4000 miles to my house because i stole their ferox in a game so that i can then shoot their ass for breaking the "castle law" by coming onto my land and upto my house with hostile intent. think you can dodge a shotgun blast from 3 feet???? |

As much and I want to stop corp theft... the op's idea is unworkable. Now asking for the players full API would be one way to help... but most people would never join a corp that asked for it. |

Other than the initial screening of a candidate, what good would a full API do once they stole all your stuff? Sure you may have a record of all where all thier stuff was, but if they aren't stupid they will immediatly reset thier API and use an alt on a different acount to rebase assets... |

Why is this idea unworkable? You have to be in a corp in this game, either NPC or player, and there is very high demand to get into the best corps. So the ceo's can dictate whatever terms they like to applicants.
Goonswarm has been conning applicants into giving money to join for ages, and yet players still fall for it since people know that once you get into a big alliance it is the ticket to easy money and a much larger variety of gameplay.
As far as fake names etc, sending their board passwords to their submitted address via mail is a way to cut down on those also. Sure, some will still get around this, but the point is to discourage thieves from trying to join your corp when there are so many easier marks out there to take from.
Isn't that the idea behind all security systems? After all, no system is 100% secure. |

I suggest you relax and enjoy EVE, it's a game after all. If you can't do that, I suggest you stop playing video games until you understand the difference between them and real life. |

That would be the purpose (initial screening). But that is not the only thing that can be done to help stop corp theft.
Here are some other methods:

this is what is in link two (written by SencneS):
As someone said you can put all your stuff in cans and have an audit log on the can. You have to set the corp role to deny can "take" access but it still doesn't stop stealing at a Director level.
As a director you can take the can, purchase a new one move stuff around. Sure the directors name will be all over it but the log will be so large it's pointless to look though.
You need better role management. Understanding the roles is key. Although our corp doesn't use this, I consider this to be one of the most secure ways to deal with corporate assets.
Understanding Corp Roles really helps.
HQ Hanger access - Access to HQ Hanger ONLY! it does NOT filter down to other bases. If you give someone HQ access they can only access the HQ Hanger.
HQ Container Access - This is access to TAKE the container from HQ ONLY. Open allows people to still open the can, and take whats inside, they just can't take the entire can.
Base Hanger access - This is more helpful then given credit for. Basically this restricts the access to a specific base (Even HQ) the base is selected in the Role Management screen. This is ideal for new members. Lets say you want to new members access but only to one base. Assign the base to them, and assign the Base Hanger access level.
Base Container Access (Same as HQ but at the base instead)
Other Hanger Access - This is the Dangerous one, people don't consider. This is EVERY SINGLE CORP HANGER AT EVERY SINGLE BASE, apart from HQ. It doesn't matter if you have selected a base for them, if they have "Other hanger access" they can access any hanger. It's very convenient but very dangerous.
Other Container Access - Same at the others but literally every single hanger your corp has apart from HQ.
You'll be surprised just how usable the system if you understand how to set it up. Our corp is kinda open on its hanger but in a single click I can turn it all off.
EDIT: Wow that wall of text even hurt my eyes... added some color
