Edited by: regretfully gentle on 21/08/2008 09:23:59 ONE PERSON, ONE TOON! (Multiple personalities count as one person)
I am a strong advocate of each person only controling one toon!
I don't think that alts should be permitted.
I don't think that multiple clients on a single computer should be permitted.
I dont think that multiple accounts per credit card / Address / email should be permitted.
(Though this will reduce CCP's revenue by about half)
The reason for this movement?
When you wake up do you have one of you to stay in bed and satisfy that glory? One of you to get up and put the kettle on? One of you to nip to the shop for some milk?
IS LIFE THAT CONVENIENT?
No. It isn't. Not even close.
SHOULD EVE BE THAT CONVENIENT?
No. In my opinion it shouldn't. Not even close.
Should you therefore be able to run multiple clients, control several alts simultaneously, carrying out several functions at the same time without any other human involvement other than yourself? I say NO. Enough! Stop!Pah! Meh! Pffft. Shhh.
All those people who agree with me say "Iye!"
All those who disagree with me say "Nay!"
Please post your support for the ridding of all alts... permanently!
Kind and sincerest regards,
regretfully gentle. |

You are about 5 years to late, and even if you posted 5 years ago, its unenforcable.
Heck, my corp basicly REQUIRES members to be able to multi client (so they can scout for themselves).

No... :::::::::: JOIN ME! ::::::::::: and be realistic.
You see, I agree that the game would be more entertaining if it were somehow restricted to one character logged at a time per person. But it's just not realistic. People will find a way to gain advantages. Especially in a game like Eve.
So doing the salmon thing and trying to swim against the flow is just a waste of time. Accept that alts are an inevitable factor and work with it. It's all you can do.

"Iye" i agree with you about one person controlling on character. Mainly because it can be abused, but then again it is incouraged by mmo games. (Revenue of course). I personally only use this toon, i cross trained to manufacture, research, fly Hacs, Battleships (Amarr and caldari), and soon to be maruders. Yes it has taken me a long time and i will not be very good at one particular thing. in the long run it will benefit me i think. i find it to much hassle myself to use multiple characters. i have tried it and sent them to the meat grinder two weeks later.
It is being abused but i dont think its going to be stopped anytime soon. Alts bring more money into ccp, which keeps the game running and free (Expensive) Expansions coming to us.
Cant complain really can we. Even if i dont like people having like 6 alts, myself. |

Pointed out your problem for you. Comparing EVE convenience with RL convenience is unconvincing. As is the idea that CCP would dissuade people from buying multiple copies of their product. And besides, what's supposed to stop me running one account on each of several computers? |

I don't have an alt because I can't be bothered to buy another account.
And having 2 chars on one account is pointless since you can't have them both training at the same time.
Safe to say, I'm a one-body man right now with a skillset so scatterbrained that theres no specialisation whatsoever, but I can do many things.
Just not very well. |

And in my opinion, designing things with that in mind is a bad way to go.
Everything a character with an alt can achieve, should be viable to others too. Otherwise, we get "money=success" and that's not good. |

What if someone in your gang or corp was a valuable asset but was an alt of another player?

I wouldn't like it as much as i would like for an actual member to do the intel, not an alt of the same corporations person.
Alts are fine, if they are not used for gaining a advance to your other characters.
I'm not saying "kill all alts!", it's in the game, that's how the game is, fine, but i would prefer it not to be like that, if i had my say. |

No, not at all, i'm saying i'd prefer it not to be like it. People can run their alts for all i care, but i would prefer(meaning, if it was like i wanted), that it's one account, one man, one destiny sorta thing.
It becomes unfair when game mechanics are changed to accommodate something with alt-use in mind. Then it becomes a "real money rules" scenario. |

Lets assume for a twilight zone moment that your wish becomes true and it becomes 1 toon per account 1 account per Credit card 1 client per IP, what would happen to:
All the alts in existence that represent time and money spent to get to where they are
Families where more than one member plays Eve but have one credit card to pay with.
Families where more than one member plays Eve and have multiple computers networked on the one IP address
Other organisations where multiple computers operate through a single IP address
And the most critical issue is it would cut the playerbase down drastically meaning the servers are less loaded resulting in a sudden mass of unemployed hamsters, PLEASE THINK OF THE POOR HAMSTERS!!!

I can easily take all the steps necessary to work around this. I can use multiple addresses, multiple IP's, multiple machines, even multiple credit cards and user names.
If I can get around it, many more can. Your just limiting the advantage to those of us who are willing to go to what depths are needed in order to have an advantage over our opponents. |

*SNIP*
regretfully gentle.
If you want to make this game so difficult, then why did you purchase this character? I personally know the original owner of this character, and he is freaking out now, and is DEEPLY embarrassed at the drivel that spouts from your *bleep*. You didn't even change the BIO, which still reads:
"That someting is not allowed, is not a vallid reason not to do it."
How sad are you, that you jump into the life of an established character, and start spouting this inane, illogical and ill-conceived notion that we shouldn't be allowed the freedom to experience this game with all the possibilities available to be utilized? How naive or foolish are you that you think these notions of yours would hold any water at this time, when the game has been well under way for 5 years, and established principles of play firmly rooted in precedent?
This folly play of yours embarrasses us all, and makes me shamed to even be resorting to writing my response to you, but nonetheless I must. I must endeaver to elucidate upon you the ramifications of what you are proposing as a preposterous and ludicrous request of us to bow to your game view. How dare you even, to demand that we be stripped of established rights and protocols in playing this game how we see fit? How dare you further use a character that you PURCHASED, to demand of us these actions be taken with light regard to their consequences?
Your post obviously falls within the realm of your corporation "Fleeting Moments of Insanity [-FMI-]", so perhaps this was an initiation process set forth by them, to see just how stupidly far you would go to earn their respect? -- D a m n a t i o n FC Personal Stats |

I do everything with one character - market, missions, PvP, research, hauling (when I have to - recently I've taken to putting up courier contracts).
That said, I am against your proposal. There would be certain advantages, such as the removal of alt scouts, but it would be detrimental too, as larger organizations practically require being multiple places, with multiple abilities, at one time, in Eve. I get by with my single character, but then I am low-ranking by choice, not seeking higher positions. That and it's my feeling that once you start taking on the kind of load in Eve that requires multi-accounting, it's really not a game anymore, and wouldn't be fun for me.
Also, as others have said, Eve is not real life, so any comparison between the two on this topic is really struggling for validity, at best.
And finally, in closing,
Post with your main.

I have multiple accounts. Once you start putting your hands in multiple cookie jars its hard to stop... not to mention, having multiple accounts makes eve feel like X3:Reunion, because you end up having your own private fleet of battleships willing to do your bidding whether that be killing small gangs or raping level 4's.
