Please advise me on the best uses (comparative strengths and weaknesses) for the Megathron vs. the Hyperion for PvP? I am fully specialized in hybrid turrets and all related combat support skills are at at least 4. The Mega seems vastly more popular than the Hyperion, but, looking at the specs, I am not sure why? Please advise?
Thanks and fly safe!

Megathron is a lot easier to fit tbh, hyperion has no powergrid so tends to be fitted as a glass cannon or a megatank where a megathron can exist as a happy medium.
Also the megathron makes a better plate tank tbh and that tracking bonus helps a lot as does the spare utility high slot and ability to field more drones.
Overall, megathron is easier and more versatile, but imo the hyperion is proably a little better. |

The Mega also has 2 weapon bonus, where the Hyp has 1 and a tank bonus. So in the world of todays buffer tanks and high damage, the Mega is vastly better, as active tanking has taken a dive down hill. Mega is also cheaper.
So if you plan to active tank - Hyp
If you dont plan to active tank - Mega |

I've heard of people liking the hyperion for low sec gate camping and as a bait ship.
If it's for a standard BS slug-fest, the hyperion seems to have a hard time distinguishing itself from the megathron. |

The Megathron packs more punch by her traditional fittings(more Damagemods and bigger Guns in general).
The Hyperion can Tank well, what reduces the DPS quite a bit but have Problems to run Gank(one less Low Slot, 8 Guns instead of 7 with the same Powergrid, less Drones, no Tracking Bonus etc).
Since most people prefere the Damage advantage and like to break a Tank instead of waiting till it fails the Megathron is more popular.
Hype is not a bad ship, but with 6 Lows and the active Tank Bonus it works best when Tanked, leaving only 1 or 2 Slots for Damagemods and less Grid for big Guns.

i suggest to fly domi: nice tank, drones, more cap stable, high slots can be successfully used for utility mods. and at price of hype you can fully fit domi domi pawa!

As aforementioned, the Hype shines for low sec gatecamps. The Mega's probably better in most other situations, though.

When I can find it cheap I like the Hyperion because of the utility mid, means you can bring ECCM/Sebo, or my favourite, a second web.
Megathron does the plate/gank thing a little better I think, if your using it Neutrons+Magstabs is a good bet. The Hyperion works nicely in Plate+Rep Ion fits, or if you want a huge active tank you can try dual rep w/Electrons.
