Hey, I was just looking for some advise on the next step up from my Cormorant. I know cruiser is supposed to be next, but from what i've been reading, they kinda suck. Should I just save my ISK and wait for something better? Any advise on the next upgrade would be much appreciated, even if it's a cruiser.

For missions, the general pattern is frigate(merlin/kestrel), then caracal, drake and then raven. Caldari is the easiest race to start out in for missions, and before very long at all, you can be safely doing level 3 and 4 missions. Cormorant is a good salvage ship, and fun to fly in level 1's, but I wouldn't linger in it long.

Caracals and Moas do not "suck" in any way. Moa is a heavy-tanked gunboat. Sure it's slow, but it does nice damage and takes hits well for a cruiser (and FAR better than a Cormie). Caracals are long-range missile boats. They're a bit more fragile than a Moa but you can still get a huge shield buffer on them. Not that it really matters though, becuz they can send light missiles out to 70km, so for level 1 and level 2 missions it's pretty rare that they even get hit at all.
Once I got into a cruiser, I never looked at the Cormorant as anything other than a salvager. Yes -- it IS that bad. (Catalyst is a far superior destoyer anyway. If you like destroyers that much, I'd suggest crosstraining to Gallente for it.)

Cruisers are great ships for Level 2 missions. I don't think it would be very easy for you to make enough doing Level 1's or 2's in a Cormorant to go straight to a battlecruiser like a Drake. I would definitely recommend flying something like a Caracal next. ----- My Pirate Blog: http://evenewb.blogspot.com/

Edited by: Sojh on 22/08/2008 03:01:18 Thanks for the input! It's really hard to gauge which ships are "good" and "bad" because there are so many opinions out there. Basically i'm looking for missions, and be able to hold my own if attacked. <--- This is Falen, I forgot to switch names back to my main =P

If you're mission running a Harpy will fulfill your needs up until you're ready for level 4 missions.
Properly fit a Harpy can perma-tank any mission. - FRIGANK |

As a rule of thumb a PVE ship probably won't stand much of a chance against a PVP ship. The key is, make sure you don't fly through lowsec for a mission. If you avoid that, then all you have to worry about is suicide gankers - but unless you're fitting tremendously expensive modules on your ships you don't need to worry about that on a mission.
Still, in my book the BEST level 2 ship in the caldari line is the Caracal. The Moa does alright if you want to go the rail route, but from a PVE perspective the rail route for caldari is a fairly painful one.

Well you can throw the second requirement out of the window. It's useless, no t1 cruiser can hold its own vs anything the gankers bring unless it is a specific counter fit or a blackbird. The latter can just run away if it's lucky and gets a jam on the scrambling ships and is also totally useless for PVE. So just don't run missions in lowsec or fit cheap fittings that you can afford to lose daily.
