A worthy suicide?
I am at a stage of my noobish existence where I have a full set of +1 implants in my head, and I have another set of mostly +2 on hand. IĘd like to plug in the more advanced tech, but itĘs a pity that the old implants are worthless. It occurred to me, perhaps this is a good time to get podded for the first time, wake up in my fully up to date clone and get that new gear into my head.
So IĘm thinking, this is a good time for my first foray out into low sec space. Take out a fully insured rifter (which I got at half list price) with cheap generic guns and see what its like to get killed by some nasties. But upon further reflection, perhaps my destruction can be put to better use?
I havenĘt really made contact with anyone yet, preferring to learn the basics of the game on my own (which I am loving!!) and not irritate anyone with boring questions. Is this a good time to break the ice? It would seem to me that there must be a variety of ways that a completely expendable pilot must be of value to other players or corporations, but I havenĘt seen this particular issue covered in the guides.
I welcome all suggestions for killing myself in ways that are fun, exciting, instructive or lucrative.

Suicide gank somebody carrying phat lewt. Have a friend scoop it. You might be able to do this with a frigate but I'd suggest a destroyer (Thrasher). First get a passive targeter and a cargo scanner (+ optional ship scanner) and sit on a gate near a busy market system (e.g. Rens). Practice covertly spying on people who are autopiloting to the market.
Sooner or later one will come along in a rookie ship or shuttle full of implants or blueprints. This is the kind of thing you want.
Now get into a destroyer fit for maximum gank. Get your buddy in a frigate with the cargo scanner. When he spots a juicy target, you gank it, Concord kills you, your buddy scoops the loot.
Oh, I just realized that you'll only lose your ship, won't get podded. Dang. But do the above anyway, it'll be fun.

Go see the Eve Gate in New Eden or go see the Wreck of Steve in C9N. Either has plenty of dangers to knock you off. I needed to get podded and made it 3/4 of the way around the galactic rim on autopilot in a shuttle.

You do realize you could just train Infomorph Psychology (900k for skill) and plop a jump clone for 100k ISK (wherever you or your player corp has sufficient standings), and use that JC to store any implants you might have ?
Yeah, I realize, a +1 set might not be worth the bother, but once you get better implants it's certainly the only sane option.

I say go and explore low sec and 0.0. You'll likely have a lot of fun if you do it smartly. Since you have nothing to lose, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just use a cheap frig or a shuttle. You'll probably gain a lot of experience and enjoy your first death. It's really better to get it over with so that when it happens next it's not so traumatizing.
Just make sure your clone is up to date.
If you're really lucky, you'll have a great story to share with us.

It might be worth combining some of the previous suggestions. I'd consider trying to reach one of the 0.0 stations that offers jump clones to anyone, regardless of standing - it would give you a specific location to work towards, at least, rather than just roaming around until you get popped. Plus jumpclones are likely to be useful to you in future (even if not now), and once you've got them they never go away, so trying to run the gauntlet now when you have little to use actually makes a lot of sense.
Be aware that you need to make sure your medical clone contract is up-to-date when you get podded; each clone is only high-quality enough to safely save a certain number of skillpoints, so if you have more skill points than your clone can store when you're podded, you'll lose some. It's not good. You can check both your current skillpoint count and your current clone at the top of your character sheet, and if you need to upgrade the clone you can do this at any station with a medical bay. I hope you were aware of this already as you're planning to be podded, but I figured I'd include it just in case.

right of course, but how many people transitioning from a +1 to a +2 set have the +8.0 standings

To repeat but stress what Akita said: you don't need 8.0 standings personally to set up a JC. If your corporation has sufficient standings that alone is adequate, and a number of corps keep their standings above this level for exactly this purpose, including my own.

You're really taking the fun out of this. You know that, right? I mean, we're talking +1 implants here. The guy wants to go out with a bang. He has two hopes: to do spectacularly; to do stupidly. Either way, we're gonna be pretty impressed with what he does, assuming it's not the dreaded: go out stupidly.
Whilst you may be giving somewhat good advice, it will pale in comparison to the player who risks dying stupidly just for the chance to do so memorably, don't you think?
I, for one, salue the OP noob (don't take that as an insult) who faces death with a smile on his face, and a full head of implants, even if they suck, in his head. I think you'll go far in this game.
Now go get destroyed in the most humiliating way possible. Later, you'll look back on it and laugh. And we'll hail you as we laugh along with you and buy you whatever you want, because you've got big brass ones.

Go see Providence. It's 0.0, but the local powers will let neutrals pass through. Still, there are roaming gangs of pirates and PVPers that will make the trip exciting and dangerous. Go to Amarr, then set destination to something like IS-R7P (where there's a station you maybe could get a jump-clone from, for a fee, no faction standings required). Train Infomorph Psychology before you start.
I think it'll be fun. If you succeed, you get to see 0.0 and maybe get a prize (a jump clone), if you fail, oh well, nothing lost.

Consider Factional Warfare (FW), if you have the standings to do it (0.5 unmodified faction standing to the one you want to join) - basically, its built as a way for newer players who want to PvP to learn the ropes, like you.
In the past, I would have recommended say piracy, or a 0.0 alliance, or similar things, but tbh this is the best option for newer players these days. Yes, the commanders can suck at times, yes, you will asplode quite a bit, but it will teach you some combat basics which at least gives you a clue how fights operate and how you can fill a role in them with future skill training.
Not only that, it can give you some nice contacts if you participate often, someone might be impressed by your devotion or some feat you accomplish despite being a newbie, you never know. Just remember, fly cheap, be professional on comms (and try to have a microphone), and follow orders even if they don't make sense sometimes .
