Serious, un-biased question. Please keep the nerf comments and hisec bullsh*t out of the thread. Thanks!
How do you make your isk? And what do you do with that money?
Is the money you make turned back to making more money (trade, hardcore missioners)?
Or do you take the money you make and fund another profession (FW, nullsec wars)?

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 23/08/2008 16:06:00 Q: How do you make your ISK? A: Piracy (nothing else, I know it's rare).
Q: What do you do with that money? A: Generally, collect it, occasionally expand my hangar with extra ships (I didn't fly BS up to maybe 3 months ago when I finally obtained a number of battleships to fight in), buy implants/hardwirings and skills.
Q: Is this money you make turned back to making more money? A: If you consider buying better and more diverse gear (and implants) a investment, then yes. Retaining a good part of it is necessary to have a good buffer to cover potential losses and/or mastering new ship types. Generally, I consider myself to be investing in doing my profession (piracy) better.
Q: Do you take the money you make to fund another profession? A: No. All the money I have either goes to increasing my wealth / financial buffer, or getting better at my profession.
I would consider I make about 250-350M / month net profit (meaning, after losses), and am comparatively better then most people doing my profession - I generally actively play for 2 hours per day.

Exploration, Alot of skills but it's well worth it if you know where to look.
I just bought a Slave Set for 1.9B isk and I'm soon gonna buy me a Faction Fitted Navy Mega to use in PVP
I use most of my ISK to PVP, but some is invested in IPOs and trades (with newbie alts)

A variety of things.
A bit of Faction spawn hunting, selling modules off of ships that I kill, a bit of light trading (Mainly involving buying some T2 mods and reselling in 0.0)
It makes enough to keep me going. Might not make the same as say, someone dedicated to trading or ratting, but I'll be buggered if I'm going to sit in Jita all day or ratting the same system/running missions day in day out. -----

I'll answer my own question.
I make mine with missions. Level 3's and 4's. At the moment, my profits go back into getting more stuff (being a ship collector, it helps), but they also are sidelined to fund a FW alt (about 10mil a week).
I also fund some other things that I like to do, like making trips in my Anathema into losec and nulsec.
Got a few jump clones and cheap ships laying in various places, too, for helping out friends and the like.

Level 4 missions in highsec. I pimp my missioning ship and buy gtcs with this money.
Is the money you make turned back to making more money (trade, hardcore missioners)? Or do you take the money you make and fund another profession (FW, nullsec wars)? No, my wallet keeps pumping.

I run L4s for my ISK, mostly. Also some low-level plex runs for Gistii B-type stuff, but that's not very reliable.
I use this money to fund my PVP ships, which get blown up all the time.

I run missions.... mine rapidly on a mining alt, find a niche market and take advantage of it for a month until people get sick of paying over inflated prices and undercut me. etc. __________________________________________ When Will I be able to post again ? 13 days, 23 hours, 55 minutes, 36 seconds |

tbh, most of the money i make is running l4's
buuuut, im not to very good at it atm, i can probably manage 3 l4's a day for around 30million, because my salvage skills suck, and trit bars and armor plates seem to hate me, but sometimes i do make probably 5 mil or so on loot/ reprocessing it, so in a day of l4 mission running, i can probably make, like i said 30-40mil
i had like 45 mil the other day, but then at the same time i got jump clones and was finally able to put freaking implants in, and someone was offering a +4 implant on local for like 10mil, so i bought that, expecting "yay, a PLUS 4 implant, im going to train skills so much faster" only to buy it, and discover that i cant even use it w/out cybernetic to lvl 4
then, since as i said, i tend to suck at l4 mission running, i do use faction iridium ammo (fed iridium for long range sniping) so thats 2.4mil per every 3 missions or so
then i also waste money on t2 fittings for cruisers in FW, so i lose aroudn 5 million per cruiser or more (mostly t2 guns, i normally fit a plated cruiser)
then, i decided, while im training for cybernetics for pretty much a week (to lvl 4) i might as well get some +3's that i can use
so i blew 30 mil on +3 implants
all in all, i probably make, and spend around the same amount of money, i guess i make a little more than i spend or i would be in debt, but its not much, net profits for a week are probably at MOST 5-6 million, i konw, i konw, pathetic, but i cant support my rich lifestyle
but, i do have a plan, my brother recently stoopped playing EVE, and told me i could use him for an alt or whatever, and im debating whether i should liquidate some of his assets to help myself get ahead, he might come back, but im not sure, anyone have an idea if i should or not?
P.S. i do also make money sometimes from looting random wrecks, i was so close to getting a t2 cloak the ohter day, but i was in a shuttle, and it takes up 100m3 of space, and a shuttle only has 10m3 of space, so i had to settle for 2 t2 overdrives

Edited by: SurrenderMonkey on 23/08/2008 17:05:05 My income sources:
-Trading, both market and contracts - 80% -Exploration - maybe 10% -Pirating (Ransoms, reselling modules) - Maybe another 5% -Everything else (missions, belt rats, I never ever mine under any circumstances, nor do I do any production) - the last 5%
As for what I do with it: I try to maintain a wallet balance somewhere in the vicinity of 3 billion. Any money I make goes towards covering my losses to a point where this is achieved, and the rest is put back into trading.
I could certainly make more money if I reinvested more of it, but I prefer to keep my effort expenditure to an absolute minimum, and the money I'm already using for trade more than covers the number of orders I really care to manage, and even in a "bad" week I don't have a problem covering my losses to maintain my wallet balance. --------------- Faction-Militia:Player-Alliance::Newbie-corp:Player-corp |

I think I've litrally done every profession in EvE at one stage but right now and for the last while its been manufacture and most of the isk I made went back into it to make more.
I'm saving up alot to be able to PvP comfortably (recons are expensive) and buy myself GTC's for the forseeable future -----------------

I have a trading alt and a freighter alt (though have never been able to make any money with that huge tub). I ratted my first few months in EVE and ran up to Level 4 missions back when I was new, but don't perform either task anymore. Just too much grinding, too many hours in monotony. At one point, I made over 700M ratting in the drone regions, but sent it all to empire to give my alt a trading war chest.
I prefer to log into my trading alt and do some deals, then log back to may main. Dex is where I spend most of my time, pvping. I keep about 1.5B in cash and about that much more in ships and mods in hangar. My trading alt buys all my stuff at discounts, then my freighter moves everything to wherever Dex is staging from (currently the front lines in FW).
Despite making a good deal of ISK, I have found there to be a rather 'hard ceiling' once you get past a billion. Profit margins close up and it's much harder to reinvest larger amounts and do something with them, unlike RL.
I make my money last by buying all my T1 ships (at least BCs and BS) at price+platinum premium = platinum payout. That way the only money I ever lose is in modules, which I make up for in contract buying and selling on my trading alt. I do fly T2 frig hulls of all types, but have avoided HACs and Recons. They are cool as shit, but I would not be happy to lose 100-120M ISK in ship and module costs every time one blows up.
And my PvP ships blow up. A lot. -- Meridius Dex --

I run level 4 missions (on my anonymous alt). I try to do some exploration, but that's just cause it's fun. It doesn't pay like level 4 missions do.
The isk I make goes towards PvP with almost no exceptions.

I sell Rupture Fleet Issues. Usually I ask 95 million but, due to a very good supplier, I am able to come way down on price and have sold this model for as low as 40 million to a hard-bargaining customer.

I look at the market, read the forums and stick my nose into other peoples business. I then decide what would be a profitable thing to make and sell.
This involves clicking a few buttons to buy stuff, then clicking a few more to transform the stuff I have bought into stuff I cans sell. Then a few more clicks and the courier contract is set up to take the stuff to market. And then I click a bit more and the stuff is on the market.
Then I go and play Tabula Rasa, cause its storyline missions actually tell a story. This give the stuff time to sell, then I log back in and click a few more buttons to see what big number my wallet is now.
Much more profitable than running level 4 missions with the added bonus that my PvE is very enjoyable and cause I never undock the risk of me losing a ship is zero.

I've been playing 8 months now and I've tried a bit of everything legal:
mining (good starter gig I guess) manufacturing (made a spreadsheet, it's a pretty fun game) exploration (haven't tried hacking sites or gas exploration yet, they're on the agenda) some -very light- trading (didn't enjoy it, kept me tied down too much) missioning (meh. Less boring than mining but pretty mind- numbing; pays well) datacore farming (won't make you rich but it's a nice welfare check every month)
... and we just got a POS put up so within the month I'll fully have my research on. By the end of the year I'll have started with invention.
Where's the money go? Mostly goes into infrastructure to make MOAR ISK at the moment: barges, transports, mission ships, labs, blueprints. What's the goal? Right now, the goal is to generate enough capital to get off of the grind; it seems that in Eve as well as in life, the less money you make the harder you work for it.
Down the road? I wanna be part of the Military Industrial Complex. I want to be able to participate in some medium- to- large sized ventures both by operating the forge and by jabbing its product into some other guy's guts ("in game" lol). Like a lot of folks I view Eve as being a big, really long RTS and I guess you could say I'm spending the first year base- building.

How do you make your isk? And what do you do with that money? trading/scamming i pvp, buy gtcs, buy characters, and help new players/noobcorps
Is the money you make turned back to making more money (trade, hardcore missioners)? sometimes i take a break for several months and spend all my ISK so i'm down to like 200-300 mil, then i take up trading/scamming again ... but to trade i need starting capital so initially all my ISK goes into funding (need at least 5b for it to start rolling)
Or do you take the money you make and fund another profession (FW, nullsec wars)? scamming requires almost no ISK input and trading there is only so much capital I can turn around per day ... once all my investment needs are satisfied ISK starts building up ... so whatever i make in excess goes into other ISK sinks - pvp, gtcs, purchasing new characters occasionally (i even bought a few as birthday presents for other eve players i know irl), and helping out younger players and corps

Missioning in highsec , fund my playtime and PVP character in lowsec

Not really, most of it goes into other players pockets either directly (GTC Buys) or indirectly (Losing ships in lowsec)

L4 missions are how i make the bulk of my money on this char, if you take into account loot & salvage sales. I work from home and I have a couple of alts, one of whom mines while the other hauls it, and i often have these chaps going about their business while i'm on conference calls or doing other stuff that's easy to multi-task to so that they're always bringing in steady money. i use the countdown applet on my G15 to alert me when it's time to jettison/haul/return/orbit so it's as easy as mining can be. my miner/industrialist also produces some stuff, but i don't have any T2 BPO's so that's never very lucrative, but i enjoy it.
all 3 of my chars have 4 L4 R&D agents which makes for some nice passive income and all 3 have pretty advanced trained trade skills, so i like to setup buy orders and sell those items back - this is something else i do when i'm not really playing although i never devote as much time/energy to trading as i should in order to maximise my income.
when i am playing and trying to make money, i have all 3 chars run L4 missions in battleships with T2 fittings and then stick one or all of them into salvage-fitted Catalysts so that i can do the missions & mop-up in no time at all. I mostly run missions with a RL pal/corpmate, so we're often 5 BS's running L4's, which makes a goodly chunk of change in short fashion. or corp also pays us dividends each money - not a huge amount, but usually enough to buy a new toy or two
as for what i do with my money - i spend probably 40% of it on new ships/kit, either for FW or upgrading my current ships, 40% goes back into investment - either in character skills or business opportunities, and the rest is either banking or miscellaneous expenses. one of my corpmates wants to setup a POS for research, so i'm currently contributing towards that, in terms of hard-cash, fuel and time-commitment.
