Okay, I'm trying to justify making max run BPC's for T2 cruiser invention. Currently it takes me a month to make 7 max run cruiser BPC's. I'm thinking it would be better to simply invent with one run copies. A max run BPC will only result in a one run T2 copy with no decrypters, or an eleven run copy with the plus 9 run decrypter and the one extra run for using a max run bpc. Inventing with a one run BPC would result in a one run T2 BPC with no decrypter or a ten run T2 BPC with a plus 9 decrypter, right?
If that math is correct, and correct me if it isn't, I just don't see how it's worth it to take the extra time to make max run BPC'S simply to get one extra run for the invention.
Long story short. Do cruiser inventors use max run bpc's? Is it worth it?

I don't. Having asked more or less this question a couple of weeks ago, but from the inventors side, now I just buy whatever is cheep on the market, without looking at runs. I'm not going to waste Decryptors on a Cruiser build.
Other people may do it differently though.

Edited by: Lady Valory on 24/08/2008 11:12:29 Don't forget that competition is driven by the best people in the business...
In other words, some people have two invention alts on their account, each with 10 R and D slots...
This lets you dedicate one of them to cruiser bpos.
Next, some people have R and D pos's in high sec. They grind missions for a month, then set up a small tower with 3-4 labs. This lowers their copy time so they can churn out max run bpcs.
Next, there are many 0.0 R and D player created outposts where the copy time is greatly reduced...
All of this means that you do need max run cruiser bpcs. First the ME savings will save u 10 mil isk per run on a cruiser. Second is the number of runs...
Alright, so you want to compete?
Here is what you do... Before or after downtime, you put your cruiser bpos in a small fast ship, and you head to low sec. You can find MANY copy slots in low sec where there is zero wait or just a few days.
This, at least, lets you start making max run copies...
Once you get the hang of low sec, then start low sec exploration. This will give you decrptors to use with the copies, and then you can invent in low sec also, and use your small, fast ship to bring the t2 bpcs back to high sec for production.
This summer my team gathered over 400 decryptors in low sec for just 7 ship and pod losses!
Edit: as far as wasting decrptors on a cruiser build, every HIC is made via invention... Every EAS is made thru invention...
Thus ANYONE can compete to have the best BPCS, and those bpcs come from using decrptors....
Why would I build a HIC off a -4 -4 bpc when right away I am not competitive?

If you're not using a decryptor it's a no brainer. It's obviously not worth it as they make no difference.
If you're using a decryptor that adds runs, it is worth it IF the value of the extra T2 run is worth more than the extra cost the max runs BPCs that you used to create it were worth. For some people making their own, the lab slots would be empty anyway, and BPCs take a little effort to sell on contracts, so it is worth it. For others, especially if buying them, it's not.

With a +9 Decryptor and max runs ((15/15) * (10/10)) + 9 = 10 runs.
With a single run BPC input ((1/15) * (10/10)) + 9 = 9.07 = 9 runs.
With no decryptor and max runs ((15/15) * (10/10) = 1 run
With no decryptor and single run ((1/15) * (10/10) = .07 = 1 run (minimum runs is 1 on success
So as you can see, using a single run input is exploiting the fact that you have a minimum 1 run on success. It will lose you a run on every job you do with a + runs decryptor. It may or may not be worth that, depending on the T1 BPC value and T2 BPC value.

Use 1 run cruiser bpc if inventing non-gallente ships.
The only time a max run cruiser bpc might be worth it is when inventing gallente ships. This is because their frig/cruiser decryptor (symbiotic figures) is ridiculously overpriced.
I have been inventing ships for quite a while now, and this issue remains difficult. Fortunately gallente t2 cruisers are fairly poor relative to the other races (except the ishtar, which will become much less desirable after nano nerf) and so largely not worth bothering with.
The greatest mystery in all eve for me at the moment is the pricing of the gallente decryptors. I could see why they were 30m each when hulks sold for 500m, but now they are priced like any other t2 cruiser.
So in summary, avoid gallente invention, and just use 1 run bpc with the racial frig/cruiser (+9 runs) decryptor.

Ok. So the ME of the final BPC if affected by using a max run copy? I know using a decrypter affects the final output me (by minus 2 for the nine-run for instance), but you're saying the max run vs. one run will futher affect the me?
The invention guide states "Note the ME and PE are not in any way, shape or form related to what the original tech 1 bpc had" So if the ME will be the same no matter the original BPC run, then it doesn't seem worth it to me to waste all that copy time just to get one extra run out of the final T2 BPC.

Yes, check the invention calculator for decryptors--you can get a -1 ME or a -2 ME bpc.
This means if we are both making hictors, and your bpc is -4 and mine is -1 or -2 on the ME then I have a cheaper build cost by far, and I can sell mine faster as I can lower the price without worries...
What a lot of posters in the past have realized is this--where can I find a regular supply of cheap decryptors, then, for invention?
That is a valid question . . .
Broadly you have:
1) join a 0.0 carebear alliance and start farming radar sites 2) find an abandonned low sec area and start farming radar sites 3) join the fierce competition for hi-sec radar sites 4) farm level four missions and then use buy orders to snag decrptors...
With option 4, take the 20 mil isk per hour from a L4 mission and rationalize it like this, "I am missioning for 4 hours today so I can buy 10ish decryptors. This will fund my cruiser invention for 3 days with max run bpcs and decrptors. In the end, I am making better ME PE bpcs, so I can recoup the isk when I sell the t2 cruisers..."

No, the ME isn't affected by the input bpc, it's affected by a decryptor if one is used.
Why this has come up I don't know.

It's worth noting that explorers tend to like the remote regions. There are a few exploration corps out there, could try to contact one of them and negotiate a bit...or just set up buy orders in relatively remote, but commonly-explored areas. Having to haul everything to market, especially if you have to switch regions to modify the orders for competition, is annoying for explorers.
Also remember that since decryptors always drop in their racial area (Gallente decryptors in gallente space), it's generally cheapest to buy decryptors in the space of whatever faction you're inventing for.

Max runs is only useable on modules/ammo and any ship that it can payoff to use decrypters on. Basicly battlecruisers(Commandships) and up.
