EvE has a lot of unique features compared with other mmorpgs, such as a time-based skill training system or player owned structure and capital weapons.
Other features look unique but are not.
The purpose of this thread is to find the not-so-unique features; it can be used as reference for other threads (e.g. for ballance discussions / comparisons) or to make it easier for new members from other mmorpgs to feel at home in EvE.
If you find any similarites like the ones below, please post them and i'll take them into the list.
Similarities: EvE and WoW-like mmorpgs (e.g. LotRo or AoC).
a) shields/armor/hull --> healthpoints
b) capacitor --> mana
c) drones --> pets/minions (e.g. loremaster/necromancer/demonologist pets)
d) shield/armor hardeners --> cloth/armor
e) ecm -> diffrent skills that disables an avatar, e.g. burglar/loremaster stun
f) warp scrambler/webifier -> various root-skills
g) missions (loot/isk) -> quests (exp/loot/gold)
h) gear quality: t1->t2->faction->officer --> diffrent quality "tiers", usually distinguished by color: e.b. normal (grey) -> good (green) -> epic (blue)
i) corps --> guilds
j) damage and resistance types: em/therm/kin/explo --> various damagetypes, e.g. light/cold/arcane/fire

yeah i can see the similarities
one is in space and the other is on a planet >_>
one has seriously cool look spaceships one has dorky looking things with 4 years old on the other end crying to there mum to stay up a little bit longer because they wanted to dance in the middle of a city for another 20 minutes >_> linky
one has REAL PVP with stragity on taking other people space... one has battlegrounds
now mr anderson one of these has a future and one of these doesnt, i just hope that you make the correct choice.

Dangerous topic, shouldn't be done, most will be flames, but i'll leave you with this;
Difference between WoW and EVE?
One is a fun game, with pretty graphics and a supporting community and all in all is a very enjoyable experience all the time.
The other is EVE

I like the Critical Hit bonus and the Combat Maneuvers, I especially like the 'Poke, Heave and Pile' maneuver, keeps the combat area tidy.

I've never played WoW, but yet I know that these are called crowd control skills in WoW.
I wrote a guide for Eve players who moved to Dungeon Runners and were confused by its complexity. I can dig this out and repost it if you like.

Well not to compare EVE to WOW... as a general comparison to fantasy MMO's one thing that is similar is the group make up, or gangs here in EVE.
We have Tank ships - Your meat shield class
We have DPS ships - Your caster class
We have Logistics Ships - Your healer class
We have EW ships - Your crowd control class
Both in EVE and fantasy games you need a balanced group / gang to tackle multiplayer content effectively.

Of course WoW is similar. You could compare WoW to every other MMO that has ever been made. And why is that? Because it has blatantly copied from every single MMO that has ever been popular 
And truth do tell, let's just find out how many of these comparisons go back to the real game, that's had more players world-wide than WoW could ever hope to have ... Dungeons and Dragons.
DnD made the roleplaying genre. We still got dice rolls and character classes, though different MMO's define them slightly differently.
Only way to get away from the DnD lineage is to go with an FPS. And no, SWG does not count

i know hundreds that quit WOW for EVE but none quit EVE for WOW,just from what i know...this tells a lot to me. |

UO was the first big MMORPG and if you go and look at it, EVE has A LOT OF THE SAME IDEAS. Perma deaths, looting of players and able to kill players in a sand box.
Too bad I can't camp the cross roads and eat my kills like I could in UO.
