Hey guys I've got myself a Tristan and a rocket launcher plus a Medium Anode Particle Stream gun, as well as a Shield and Armour booster. I was wondering- what should I do to get a start on pirating? I'm currently training to get a Thorax, and I'm close to getting all the skills, but for now, what should I do? I have 105 million ISK at the moment as well.

I'd start by not selling your GTCs for so cheap. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post.

Edited by: Emyth Juk on 25/08/2008 05:55:38 Dude, the biggest problem is that you have no way of hold onto a target. Try fitting a webber and a scram. Oh, and a frigate working alone isn't gonna be able to kill much. Use your 'connections' to scare up some friends or a better ship.

Allow me to be the first to give a slightly constructive post.
That Tristan kit, simply put, is terrible. Lasers don't go on Gallente ships. Switch the turrets to Blasters (Electrons or Ions will probably fit easiest with your skills), keep the rocket launchers.
Secondly, drop the shield booster. Gallente ships don't shield tank, and no ship tanks both shields and armor simultaneously. I don't know entirely if it fits (I've never flown the Tristan, I'm an Incursus fan) but try a small armor rep, 200mm plate, and a damage control. For your meds, MicroWarpDrive (or an afterburner if you can't fit an MWD), a 7.5k warp scrambler, and a stasis webifier.
If all that fits, it'll be a solid fit for piracy, just be careful in what you engage (as with all frigates). Next time, read your ship bonuses so you know what to fit, and look around at other setups so you know what to fit (i.e., shield + armor tank = bad idea).
And don't buy iskies. It makes baby jesus cry.

I'm going to suggest you sell or put away the Tristan for now and buy an Incursus instead. The Tristan is a tough ship to fly well if you don't have good fitting skills not to mention it uses three different weapon systems (hybrids, missiles and drones).
General Incursus fitting:
Highs: 3x Electron/Ion Blasters w/ Antimatter
Mids: 1x Microwarpdrive 1x Web 1x Scrambler
Lows: 1x 200mm Plate 1x Damage Control or Magnetic Field Stabilizer or Overdrive Injector or whatever you can fit with your skills
Drone: 1x Hobgoblin
Good luck. ----- My Pirate Blog: http://evenewb.blogspot.com/

This. The Incursus is much much easier to fit/skill for compared with the Tristan. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Because I was asking the question for the level I was at there. Now I'm able to use a Cruiser so I would prefer that.

I would again recommend you stick with the Incursus a bit until you have some skills and experience. It is like a mini-Thorax in a lot of respects so it would be good training. That being said, here is a pretty newb friendly Thorax fit that I love to use:
Highs: 5x Small Neutron Blasters w/ Antimatter
Mids: 1x MWD 1x Web 1x Scram
Lows: 1x 1600mm Tungsten Plate 1x Damage Control 1x Medium Armor Repairer 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane
Drones: 5x Hammerhead or 5x Valk or 5x Vespa-600 ----- My Pirate Blog: http://evenewb.blogspot.com/

TBH, you should train for battleship ASAP and hop into one of those instead of a cruiser (the Dominix only requires BS Level 1 so it shouldn't take too long). After all, bigger guns means more damage means more killing.

Don't get me wrong- I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather do something like that with an EVE player which I know in real life. I hope you understand I don't mean to be rude or anything, but even though you might not, and probably won't, I just met you and don't know you well enough. Thanks for the idea though! It's good to know all of these things I can do to help start pirating.

Beware of the trolls!!!
seriously though... forget the thorax, forget the domi... play with the incursus, lose a lot, kill some other frigs learn much... use the fitting that above player that was being helpful gave you. you are not anywhere near the level where you should be to fly a cruiser, let alone a battleship. you have what, 1.2 mill sp??? you shouldn't really be touching a bs in pvp till you have at least 7-8 mill.

Keep in mind that just because you have the skills to fly the ship doesnt mean you have the skills to fly it good enough to be worth flying. Dont fly a cruiser until you have the support skills to fly it decently

Mid: Domination Warp Disruptor Estamel's Modified Invulnerability Field Estamel's Modified Invulnerability Field

Christ, everyone has been yankin' your chain.
Two lessons:
1) Bigger ship ==/== better All because you can fly a ship doesn't mean you should. Unless you have support skills to back it up, you will quite frankly suck and be too easy of a target. IE: One month old battleship pilots
2) Never trust anyone in Eve. If you do, it's your fault when you, and most likely, get screwed over. Question everything.
Other than that....meh.

Yeah, the only people I trust are people I know in real life, or someone I've actually known for years that I didn't meet from EVE.

I would seriously follow the advice that the majority of the folks here are giving.
Start small, just because you can fly a cruiser don't mean you should and its much easier to replace a frigate after you've ****ed it up for the 10th time.
You may have 105 mill but a decent fit on a frig can set you back 5 mill at least, my rifters used to be worth that with decent fits.
Also begin by can flipping, its a good skill to learn and unarmed miners can and will bring bigger ships that require you to adapt to survive.
