WTF
has anyone else noticed this in the news recently?
I could have sworn there were more within the past 2 weeks but this was only what was on the recent stuff. I remember reading somewhere that the odds for plane crashes are small but uh... wtf
Prayers to the family members of everyone on board.

They are.
Do you know how many flights you dont hear about every day? If the news told you how many successful flights there were, and not just crashes, then it would be much smaller of a real problem.
As it stands, the airplane is one of the safest ways to travel. You will also note that the problems usually only occur during takeoff and landing... I would prefer to be in an airplane over a car any day.

God that's frightening. Even more reason for me to hate flying.
There were alot of casualties in the Madrid crash. I've been somewhat worried about Isischan, I know he lives in Madrid and travels.

an odd fact for your enjoyment. More people get killed per annum by donkey then by plane crashes. It was a fact a few years back probably still stands today

yes there was another one in vegas
yes i live here so i heard about them both, lol its starting to worry me, im wondering if im going to have a fighter jet smash into my house at supersonic speeds or something (i live right near nellis air force base)
EDIT: the one i linked IS a completely seperate crash, this happened only yesterday at 230pm, not 630am, and no one was in the house for this one either, only the pilot died

Of the original links, only one was a large commercial jet.
The others were two light aircraft (notoriously bad maintenance) and one home made (please tell me that was just a link to make up the numbers).
Commercial jets have to be maintained by law in any country. The FAA in the US and I believe the UK as well will ground any company that does not have an up to date certificate of airworthyness for all of their aircraft. All other countries have a variant of the FAA by whatever name they call it.
Under the circumstances, a crash involving a commercial jet is about as likely as you being hit by lightning. It happens but is so rare, it doesn't even bear a passing thought. I have flown countless times across the world and I believe that I stand more chance of dying in my own home in a household accident than on a plane flight.

You odds of NOT getting in a plane crash right now are pretty good; so get all your flying out of the way.

Indeed.
I personally like THIS animation showing the flight patterns and numbers of planes in flight over the continental US in a 24 hour period. (It's quicktime, let it load fully before you play it.)
Just goes to show you how little planes REALLY crash. There were 0 crashes or accidents in the animation. Tactical Logistics using the last T1 Frigate hull!

even tho planes are statistically safer than most other forms of travel, I would rather get mangled in a car or motorbike crash than plummet from the sky, I've flown 10 times in my life and each time its like torture to me, I go pale, my hands sweat, I start to panic, I hate flying so much and stuff like this doesnt help.

damn, that sure did look like a nice little tactical nuke simulation if all the states went crazy and started hitting each other;)
statistically, it's still more dangerous to shower daily than to fly (iirc)...
of course, when I slip in the shower, 50 people don't die, but that's the media's making everything into a sensation more than genuine danger... plus, flying is way more fun than washing dirt off...

yeah right, i love flying, lol
hey, think about it, if your in a plane crash that hits the ground, chances are you wont live very long which = little to no suffering, the same cant be said when you like impale yourself or get sliced up w/ broken glass or get trauma from the airbag . . . . and then die
although i once had a friend that is also scared of flyign say "its just a coffin with wings"

As a pilot, I assure you the standards that the FAA and other pilots hold you to are far higher than the standards the DPS and NTSB hold on drivers. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post.
