I was talking with a corpmate and we think that a EVE movie or EVE telavision series would be cool. Doing this would advertise EVE to people that dont even know about Eve online, of course that would bring in more players. To make it even cooler player corps or alliances could be mentioned or something. You wouldnt even need any actors, (maybe just voice actors) do it all CG. if you involved all 5 races (have Jov make an appearance or something) in a large scale battle. With the programming CCP has something like this should be pretty easy.

Check out Clear Skies if you haven't seen it.
Only problem I have is I imagine an Eve show being more like:
cut to pod pilot in pod blub blub (bubbles in green pod goo)
cut to outside ship - an Osprey in an asteroid belt bzzzzzzt bzzzzzzt (mining lasers)
cut to pod pilot in pod blub blub (bubbles in green pod goo)
cut to a computer display with Local Chat Pod Pilot> In Soviet Russia, asteroids mine you
cut to another pod pilot in pod blub blub (bubbles in orange pod goo)
cut to a computer display with Local Chat Pod Pilot 2> LoL
Just doesn't seem to have much drama potential.

CCP should cast Bruce Willis and call the new EVE Online movie Die Hard: Dying without an updated clone.
They should also cast that red haired chick from the fifth element and let her run around in some piece of clothing that only covers 4% of her body while screaming "ni hao ni hao!"

Yeah. With a bit of this mixed in. But probably less pew pew and more blub blub (like at 1:13).

Well to be fair they did release the Empyrean Age Novel, which was an attempt to reach out to other sci-fi fans (I think), unfortunately the story was a bit rushed I think and not very well written. I was a bit disappointed because some of the Eve Chronicles are quite cool and an Eve novel had so much potential to be awesome.

Dude,
I love EVE as much as anyone, but keep in mind Firefly couldn't last a single season and the SciFi channel is intent on cancelling all of it's sci-fi programming. Unless it was "90210 in Space" or a CAOD reality show I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell of any EVE programming getting to the big screen.

The thing to remember is that whatever comes of a new medium MUST be treated as a new medium.
Using anything which already exists as a basis or template for another medium rarely works as well.
If there is going to be a film/animation of anything EVE related, then it has to have an original script at its core.
As for your claims of "With the programming CCP has something like this should be pretty easy" is unfortunately way-off, as to undertake a full motion CG film would run at approx 500,000 dollars-per-minute of screen time for an average of 85 minutes per the standard animation film length. That's taking into account everything from the initial cost of the script creation, all the way through to the final editing, marketing and distribution of the film.
So, unless CCP has a little under 50 million dollars to burn for when it gets a little too cold in Iceland, I think the chances are pretty slim. Yes, I know you were talking about a television series also, but that's even more money.
Our best hope is probably that CCP sell the licence to make a film and hope that whoever picks it up doesn't shit all over it like a dog with diarrhoea.

i happen to agree with Norwood - it's not always a badly written book, but it's not often WELL written, either. it's clumsy, filled with cliches and hyperbole, lacks a coherent, driven plot and has superfluous characters that are there for no other reason than to fill the 'ethnic quota.' it's also very, very badly edited - simple words like "Border" are written as "Borden" - a single mistake is 'just one of those things', a dozen mistakes (i stopped counting after that) is just sloppy.
it reads like a novel-length piece of fan fiction and despite wanting to like it, i felt it was very disappointing for the first full length EVE novel.
given your feelings on this, i think it would be fair to say YOU wouldn't know a good book if it hit you in the face - but the beauty of an 'opinion' is that you are free to disagree with me, and vice versa.
here's to the next EVE novel, hopefully that one won't be such a disappointment.

I discovered why a lot of books written outside of the US are so poorly edited about a year ago.
The English... and pretty much anyone not in America turns off the spell checker on their word processors because the spell check will tell them that colour is wrong and color is right.
There are a ton of English words that are spelled slightly different from the American word and they hate being told that their version is wrong cause an American wrote the spell checker.
Chances are very high that if you find tons of spelling errors it was written, printed and published outside of the US.
As far as the plot of the book. Well, it was pretty bad. I put the author on my personal list of "never read again" authors. Gail Z Martin currently holds the top spot.

Um, I use the correct language settings in the spellchecker, ie UK/GB/EN ... whatever it offers. Is there any "proper" software that doesn't offer this feature?

Seriously though, the differences in spelling are the same as different languages using different words. To say a language is wrong is like saying the whole country is wrong as they don't do things the way your country does... There is a word for that. _____________________ I'm not afraid to die My soul will carry on You can't kill me I'm Imortal |

lemme write you the future of an eve series.
1. it is truly awesome, amazing, and inspiring and we cant help but watch it ever week. 2. we hit the magic season 4 that removes all originality from the plot 3. we hit the magic season 5/6 and rating drops down by 50% 4. season 7, hmmmmm im seeing the final episode there.
And scifi genre is a hostile environment. The only place to show an eve series would be scifi but look at the awesome stuff scifi no longer player! They cut farscape!!!!!

The man has a point. Any adaption of EvE into Film or TV would have be done very carefully because it would invite the end game. All the best Sci-Fi now seem to have a definite ending.
Careful what you wish for.

I'm sorry but that actually does not make any sense at all.
There are UK english dictionaries for spellcheckers and we can safely assume that anybody writing or editing a book would be professional enough to select or find the UK version - in cases where the word processor doesn't use the right one per default thanks to the regional settings already. --- Save the forum: Think before you post.
