Is no one else terrified of the day he gets up on stage with Prince Phillip and the two of them do a repeat act of Boris's infamous "lets insult every single person in Liverpool" comedy skit...? I can see the UK ending up at war with some random country of other because Boris and Phillip called them sausage eating fascists or slit eyed foreigners, that last one is a real quote by the way. Terrifying that the UK lets this man represent us to other nations really. Quite frankly he's an old fashioned un-reconstructed racist.
Some of Phillips other great quotes include
"If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it.
To a British student in Papua New Guinea: "You managed not to get eaten then?"
Seeing a shoddily installed fuse box in a high-tech Edinburgh factory, HRH remarked that it looked "like it was put in by an Indian".
At the height of the recession in 1981 he said: "Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed."
In 1996, he drew sharp criticism when he said "a gun is no more dangerous than a cricket bat in the hands of a madman". The comment came in the wake of the massacre of 16 children and their teacher in Dunblane, Scotland.
Quotes nicked from Wikipedia btw.

I must admit I got a kick out of seeing the antics of London's new mayor. Someone on SHC put it best - he looks like he was wearing his fatter brother's coat that was too big for him, and looked like he snorted a bag of coke and just did a keg stand. Bwhahaha! I wish the U.S. had this guy for a President, we'd be way off better in the RL.

I've been forming an opinion recently and to be honest this the first stage of it. If you don't care move on lol this is gonna be long.
I grew up in a mining town in the eighties not the most enlightened place on the face of the planet. There was a fair bit of racism mainly due to lack of exposure to other cultures. Thinking back it wasn't all that malicious. For instance the Pakistani owned shop on the corner was refered to using the obvious term because generally it was a shortened version of the word. If anyone thought someone would take offence it wouldn't have been used.
Later on as we got older and times changed open racism wasn't tolerated in the social groups I mixed with. I moved to Coventry and then finally to London and after a few years there I can safely say I was pretty much as culturally aware as I could be. Despite my upbringing which should have instilled some racist attributes I can honestly say I don't harbor or exhibit any racist values and I'm not comfortable with other people expressing them.
At this point I have to say that the over PC brigade that caters to every whim of the minorities in the country has taken things way too far to the detriment of the people they believe they're helping.
Now I've moved out of London to what is considered a nice part of the country I'm now encountering openly maliscious racist views on a daily basis from what I thought were enlightened people. Now this is where Boris comes in, thats a border line racist remark. After so many medals China isn't just good at Ping Pong. But its accepted now and is becoming more so. This is due to the over PC brigade, now we've come full circle if we moan at the comment Boris made you're accused of being one of the PC brigade and instantly dismissed.
Now the serious bit. So we're down on the Muslim, the imported labourer and the illegal imigrant just as we're hitting a major economic blip and we don't know how bad is going to get. In history when economic situations have been bad and people are looking for a scape goat you end up with people using racism to build power. Happened in Germany and Serbia. Now I'm not saying we'll get that bad but I sense the undertone of a race backlash and I'm not sure if the economic climate will amplify it to the point where the wrong people can take advantage.
/start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

I'd rather have someone who knows something about Britain's history than some crazy Labourites. I'm not excusing the Tories for what they did in the Eighties and early Nineties, but Labour has been shockingly bad for the UK. One unwanted war and one war which we're losing due to spectacular funding cuts, an NHS that is still overspending which you can potentially get infected and die from just using and their failed attempt at constructing their "multicultural society".
Boris on the other hand has a list of qualifications larger than the IQ of most cabinet and shadow cabinet ministers, and has an eccentricity and charisma around him that seems to magnetise people. He's a very intelligent man, if a tad old-fashioned, but I would vote for him in a flash if he stood at the next General Election instead of Shameron.

I'm more terrified of waking up in a country, where you can't make fun of everyone else equally.
And to those that say something is racism, look up the definition of race, look at how many little races there are and realise, Chinese/English/German etc etc is bound to nations, not races.

Ok, I'll give you the point about racism. However call it what you will, Prince Phillip is a deeply unpleasant man. There is a world of difference between taking the **** out of people in private, or in a situation where it is clearly a joke and an official setting. Asking an Aborigine dignitary if his people still chuck spears at each other at a official state function is quite simply ignorance of the deepest kind. I could have carried on listing other quotes he has made, some of the ones about/to Scottish people are really rather nasty, but I think telling British students in China that if they stay too long they will end up Slitty eyed is indeed racist.
Where as Boris just seems to have lack that certain something between his brain and mouth that filters out the stupid/silly things we all think from time to time. He has the potential to do a very good job in London.
Anyone fancy a bet on how many more posts this thread will last before the lock?

Oh, I find him unpleasant too.
But do Aborigines still throw spears at each other? I don't know. Along the lines of if an alien comes here and asks do we still shoot each other with bits of metal rather than use death beams?
That would actually be funny, interstellar arms dealers here to sell us death rays!
