I've read some things about PVE and one of them is some classification of the most suited type of damage against a particular type of Rat.
For instance, on this site (http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Ratting), one can read that explosive damage is most suited against Angels ...
However, if I look at the stats : A common angel rat has the following resistances (source battleclinic.com) : Shield: 0/50/40/20 Armor: 50/10/35/35
It's obvious quite quickly if the ship has as much shield as armor that emp is more effective than explosive damages.
Then I thought that maybe mainly explosive weapons or shells are more effective than mainly emp weapons or shells. I am a minmattar, so I looked at projectiles. It seems to me that EMP and Fusion are the most effective (at EMP damage for the first one and explosive damage for the other) Comparing damages caused to shield and armor (once again considering that the ship has as much shield than armor) I come to the following conclusion (I multiplied projectile raw dmg points by the resistance percentages) : Fusion: 10.4 raw dmg points against shield (0*0 + 16*0.5 + 4*0.6 + 0*0.8) and 17 against armor for a total of 27.4 EMP: 16.4 against shield and 14.8 against armor for a total of 31.2
So, I am not moaning against bad information on some sites, on the contrary. I just feel like I am missing something (I globally tend to believe common know-how) and I would like to understand.

I'm not sure what rat that is that those resists are from, but they seem fairly atypical. For example a typical angel mission BS has identical resists on shield and armor, and explosive is lowest at 40% or so, em 70ish, thermal 60ish and kinetic 50ish (take these with a grain of salt, my memory has been known to fail me at times), which explains fusion as an ammo of choice.

I agree with the guy above me. I'm not sure where those numbers came from, but they're not exactly typical for an NPC; they look more like player ship stats. Most Angel Cartel NPCs will have a large explosive resist hole in both their shields and armor, so Fusion is usually better against them, both for the damage and the extra range. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Wherever you got those resistances, they are the basic ship resists for Gallente player ships. Not for Angel NPCs.
As you can see here, explosive is indeed angels' worst resistance. This is the midway angel BS. Elfarto's is a nice site for some quick NPC stats. And the NPC database in battleclinic (which is a bit slow for my taste) actually show the same values, so I really wonder where you got your numbers... And if you are reading this, you have arrived at the signature without noticing...

K, I think I have found the error. I had looked at this: http://www.battleclinic.com/eve_online/item_database.php?id=i17928&tab=attributes Now, I come to realize, that maybe those stats are the stats of the faction versions of the ships as the players can get them for their own use ...
Thx for your answers.
