Because some people take this game wayyyyyy too seriously?
Its the laid back attitude of TEST, Goons and the CFC as a whole that drew me to TEST.
No CTAs, very few rules (the only real rule is dont **** with blues), lots of space to mess around in, a very active population (so lots of roams, fleet ops, etc during most TZs), and nobody breathing down your neck about KB stats (we care soo little about KB stats that we take out fleets of ships with rainbow lasers and die in a glorious fire just for the lulz) |

I find much of their antics rather amusing (like the starfleet dental bridge of death). The Fallen Earth group was a major let down though. They tried to come in riding on the notoriety of eve goons but failed to impress and most left pretty quickly. I also learned the other day that I work with an ex goon. |

And it isn't that they are picky about who they let it.
I don't like goonswarm because of how they scam recruits. You can't really trust that they're actually going to make you a goonswarmian unless you're already a goonswarmian. Best advice I got was, if a goon tells you that you should join them, best thing to say is "no thankyou."
And you know what, they don't care. Which is fine. They have their bit of the sandbox, I have mine. Just so long as we can have the opportunity to kick in each others' sandcastles. |

I love them. They are active and want the game to be fun for everyone and for no one at the same time.
Quite a few of their members have been extremely helpful to myself and several other noobs.
I have no doubt that they wouldn't hesitate to blast my ship, and quite possibly troll me...the first one is part of what makes this game interesting, the second is ...irrelevant? Anyways, neither of these is a cause for hatred. Competition is good, hilariously grandiose schemes and general eve-loving is even better.
Edit: Also, they remember that this is, in fact, a vidya game. Only a few big alliances seem to remember that. FA, PL, Test and Goons to various levels. ...if I'm wrong, forgive meh, I'm a newb. |

I don't half of the crap they try and sell here on the forums. I believe most of thier scams are orchestrated, alot of thier evil doing is totally made up, it's all propaganda to gain a rep as something bad to the bone and to be feared.
I have fought Goons, I have Fought -A- and as a fighting force in EVE? I'd take the cowboy T1 fleets of goons as an enemy any day. Hell if they shot half as much as they spam local they might actually be a threat.

Same reason people hated BoB or M0o. They're on top, you get to be the target in internet spaceships king of the hill.
Despite their behavior, goons, BoB, M0o have been able to abuse/overuse/exploit mechanics here and there and CCP fixes them. So that is a good thing.
If there is anything to hate from any of these groups it is the arrogance, but since they are on top, they get some rights to be arrogant, doesn't absolve them of being douche bags however. :) |

People dislike Goons for one simple reason: Goons don't play together to help themselves win. They play together to help everyone else lose.
Any time, any place, any game. If you find Goons, you will find the people responsible for your poop flavored pudding. That being said, a good number of the best people I know IRL are Goons. From history buffs to world travelers to occultists, all are as intelligent as they are funny as they can be cruel.
Goons aren't bad people, exactly, they're just very different. It's a unique culture and, as is anything from the internet, it's a horror show to outsiders. |
