I don't know if the 600 MHz processor of the iPhone can handle Eve client but it would be nice if they can make a smaller version for changing skills, market stuff and chatting with your buddies. null |

Use VNC Lite (app). Slow (really slow), but you can change skills with it :D With patience...

We may not be able to run EVE on the iPhone, but at least we can use the google skillz monitor widget. The iPhone google app will connect you to iGoogle in iPhone Safari. If you have the Eve Skills Monitor widget installed on your iGoogle page, you will be able to watch training time tick away and isk come in from market orders while you are at work or at your mother in law's house. Woo hoo!

Well technically you can play Eve on the iPhone, by using the VLC Lite i mentioned. It's a remote desktop. I'm not sure if one could tweak the settings a bit and lower the resolution enough so that it would have a faster refresh rate (imac 20" + iphone is a horrible combination when it comes to refresh rate).
I mostly just check if my legal torrent files have finished and if they have I putt the machine to sleep via iphone. handy.

Edited by: Hartlier Xirone on 14/09/2008 20:12:51 I recommending you to get the EVE Tracker app, works like EVEMon or any other skill monitor, with all info you need on your iPhone/iPod Touch.

Yep, using it. Quite nice, I would like too see a different approach to the "time left", but it's quite nice. Now...if we could just get EFT....that would rock.

Heres some new features coming to EVE Tracker in v1.1, it's submitted and are awaiting approval.
* Added functionality to load the EVE API Key web page and parse it automatically so users won't have to enter it manually. Manual entry will still be available. * Fixed skill list sizing bug (which is preventing folks from accessing skill groups at the bottom of the list). * Added a UI warning so users know when their API Key won't be saved (which only occurs when a pilot is not selected or values are not validated). * Added support for locale number formatting. * Added a badge number (red number in upper right corner of app icon) to signify when a pilot is not in training. * Added a toggle functionality to show time left or absolute time for completion of the currently training skill by tapping on the progress bar. * Fixed pager control width resizing issue for users with 4+ pilots. * Fixed a bug in perception implant bonus calculations; also added more precision to attributes. * Adjusted the user ID and api key font for improved ability to distinguish between "iI1l0O" characters. * Increased the label width for pilot names. * Moved the settings/config button on the pilot pages to the lower right corner.
Looking forward for this. ___________________________________

Also available for the iPhone/iPod Touch (and for that matter, any modern browser) is EViE, which has a full skill monitor, skill priority manager, skill display and search, and a lot more. It'll even send SMS alerts to a cellphone when your skill training is about to complete.

Firstly, let me tell you about Capsuleer, the single most beautifully designed and easy to use EVE iPhone application to date.
Version 1.0 offers a SECURE method for gathering your API information, but I will talk about that bolded word in a moment.
While it may be true that other EVE iPhone apps may currently offer slightly more functionality, the Capsuleer team is already diligently working on v1.1 which will include:
- EVE Online News Feeds - Full skills database, your current skills, and the possibility of EVEMon importing (Still looking at the logistics of that one)
Each new release will focus on integrating one new API key feature into the application until ALL API features are supported, as well as some other useful EVE tools that are not supported directly in the API.
If you want to get the best iPhone app for Eve, stick with Capsuleer.
Now, let's talk about security.
An API is supposed to be a method of interacting with a dataset without having to login directly to that dataset.
Having said that, SCRAPING is a huge security risk. Not only are you exposing your username and password to a third party application, but you're completely circumventing the purpose of an API in the first place.
This isn't a knock at our competitors. The iPhone currently doesn't support copy/paste, and they came up with the best solution they could.
Capsuleer features an Import Control System. Your username and password is never required for the application to import your EVE API information. This ensures 100% security for you. That is important. I really can't stress that enough.
In the end, use the application you prefer best. For me, I prefer an easy to use, visually pleasing, code solid powerhouse of an app. So I'll stick with Capsuleer.

You seem to be assuming that your method and scraping are the only methods. Personally I prefer my 'Import from address book' button.

The design of Capsuleer is very pleasing to the eye - good job on that, just a bit too visually distracting for my daily use tastes, hence me going with the more 'stock-iPhone' interface for iClone ________ iClone - an OS X and iPhone Skill Tracker |

Lol, I can see how it would come across that way. It's all about advertising and promotion. I mean, could you imagine Nike saying "Yeah, we're a decent shoe." I imagine their sales wouldn't benefit from it.
As for your choice of using iClone, as I said, there's a few apps around that all benefit players with mobile devices.
I do hope you will give Capsuleer another look as v1.1 rolls out. We're introducing a couple of major things that you might particularly find of interest.

You seem to be an expert on this app, so I will post this issue here. Hopefully you can forward this or tell me who to contact. First, the screenshots:
It's telling me that I'm not training a skill that will finish on Jan 9, 2010.
Any ideas as to what's going on, Thanks. And yes, i have verified that I am training this skill, which will finish on jan 3, according to Capsuleer and the game UI. === Q u o t e: If the servers aren't up, its not a hotfix. |

How does your method make your app any more secure than EVE Tracker? I would be careful how you answer... I'm not your average joe.
I mean... whose to say that having the API key emailed to yourself.... the computer where you acquire they key... is more secure than having EVE Tracker do it from the iPhone? (Which never worked for me but that's not the point).
Not to mention the fact that EVE Tracker has better functionality until your update comes.
: O )
Good potential tho... look forward to your update. =============== CEO of Clan Shadow Cadre www.shadowcadre.com =============== |

Edited by: Zirketch Kruug on 09/01/2009 13:19:10 From Fanfest there was some mention of COSMOS... an eve-type-of-facebook-thingy where we can chat in corp, work the market and do various other things, but skill changing outside of eve is not on the radar screen as something CCP wishes to entertain at the moment.
Thus COSMOS will run on any web browser, ergo iPhone.... closest we will get for the time being. |
