There seems to be far more mexalon around than is needed - the prices for it are way depressed - its just not used in proportion to how much of it you get.
I can only suggest 1 of 3 things:
Increase need for mexalon on BPs
Descrease yield of mexalon from Plagiclase
Decrease amount to plagioclase found in systems/decrease respawn rate.
I say plagioclase as the problem as the other ores that yield mexalon are much rarer and generally only found in less safe space so are not really a contributing factor to the problem.

I was in a system yesterday where the buy order price, mind you not sell order, were above 17 per unit of mexallon.

I see several buy orders all the time for above 16isk a piece of mexallon as well. there is but one problem though. Look at the ammount they are buying. If the buy order is above 13 to 14isk, chances are that that order is for less than 100 pieces. The 10-14 range generall is for buy orders of 1,000 to 10,000 pieces and then there are buy orders for millions at 5 to 10 isk a piece. Last buy order I saw at 17 isk specifically wanted 92 pieces of mexallon, that can be gotten from one refine of plag or pyroxeres with only lvl 1 refining.

Exactly - I end up with mex in 100k multiples - and I am not even trying to get it.
Its on par with the amount of pyrite I get, but look at BPs, you need FAR more pyrite than you do mex.
The biggest buy order for mex at a decent price I have seen is 33k units - thats barely worth hauling for.
My preference as a solution would be to modify some of the ammo/missile BPs so they use far less trit and pyrite and more mex (eg havoc and thunderbolt need about 1500 trit per batch if I remember rightly, try changing that to say 150 mex, or more) also increasing the ammount of mex needed on ships by a few times, and maybe considering lowering some of the other mineral needs to compensate, maybe just increasing the mex.
Trit and pyr fit in fine, nocx and iso do aswell - zyd mega and morph are in a league of their own. Mex is the one that is just using space in your hanger or being sold at a very low price.

Question: if the price is low, yet people are getting a lot of it, how is that bad for anyone in particular?
