When CCP first introduced exploration, my jaw dropped.
I found Jaspet and Gneiss in huggy-bear country (read: high-sec) and those annoying "unknown"'s did escalate every now and then to surprise me with an officer rat loaded with goodies.
I've been out of the game for a while since then and after my return I not only found out that my cute Helios shortly after changed its appearance to that of a smelly, flushable object, I also found that hidden belts now stink (I since gave up on roid-hugging for different reasons) and after scanning with my ship's scanner in 12 systems and fighting 15 exploration sites I have yet to find one that escalates!
Am I doing something wrong?
I mean... I scan at a planet... BINGO!, I warp in, **** pillage and plunder every rat/drone that doesn't get the message and then I fly circles around and bump into every piece of floating garbage before I blow up the blow-uppables.
Look... I know I shouldn't expect every exploration site to escalate, even I am not that naive, but fifteen sites in a row!?
They must have changed something, I must be doing something wrong.

I've found a few sites so far in highsec and not many seem to escalate or they have a very low chance of doing so. The only one that ever seem to escalate is "Pulverize the Drones", but sadly drones rarely contain great loot and you have to get quite a few escalations in this one to get t2 salvage :/

I've had quite a few hi-sec Sansha sites escalate.

I'm doing Serpentis sites and I have yet to have one escalate.
The ones that escalated for me before were Sansha... I think I'm gonna head on over back to Sansha country and see if it makes that much of a difference.

I know of at least 3 Serpentis sites that escalate, namely Serpentis Hideout (Mindflood), Serpentis Lookout (Angel Kickbacks) and Serpentis Vigil (Booster R&D), all of them high-sec. Provisional Serpentis Outpost might escalate as well, as it's a low-sec version of Serpentis Hideout but I've found it just once and it did not escalate. Check http://chieflobo.wikidot.com/eve-exp-log-en. All the mentioned sites are described there. None of the ecalations, though. But I already have the material for Mindflood and Angel Kickbacks, just need to give it some readable shape.

Sites/escalations I've seen:
Guristas Lookout->Trap?
Guristas Watch->Terrorist plot
Guristas Vigil->Kidnapped
Haunted Yard->Pulverize the pioneers
Rogue Trial Yard->Moving Day
Ruins->Menacing Mechanics
Sansha Provisional Outpost->Sansha Surveilance Squad
Won't tell you the walkthroughs though

Ur sure ur scanning for exploration sites (=cosmic signatures)? Cause 15 seems quite a lot, but if ur doing anomalies it would be quite normal as the chance for an anomaly to escalate is really small.

How do you know the names of the sites? All I scan for are cosmic anomalies since I dont have the skills to use probes yet. When I find a site I warp to it and clear it out. So far, most of the Shansha sites I have found have escalated and had many spawns. Of all the many sites I found, only the last one had a TS cruiser in the final spawn that dropped a TS Gold tag and TS M crystal. I have no idea where or how the name of the site is determined. Thanks in advance.

Press F10 (overviwe map) and chooose "solar system", the name will show after ur in it.
and "escalation" doesnt mean that u get more spawns, but that u get a pop-up message after u shot the trigger (which can be a structure, a specific ship etc)telling u to a bit of a story about more ebil pirates somewhere else bla bla 
U then set destination to the system and warp to the escalation site (u get the "warp to" option by right-clicking the escalation entry in ur journal).

I used to get tons and tons of escaltions, but recently I haven't gotten any. Used to get 2 or 3 a week, but in the past few months I've gotten 2, neither of which escated all the way to the end of the chain. I think it was after a patch that it fell off, but I couldn't tell you what patch it was. Was never anything in any patch notes about it either so meh, who knows.

Thanx for all your replies.
The most irritating thing is I can make about 100 mil ISK a day with three or four level 4 missions depending on what missions they are.
I'm currently so sick of doing these missions I figured I'll get back to exploration for a while.
But after a day of shooting frigates and drones without any escalations I sure am very dissapointed in that aspect of Eve.
So back to level 4's to make some ISK I guess.
