Take a look at this:
Doing storyline "Case of Kidnapping" for Caldari, got 8.4% for Caldari, however I only got 0.1872% derived standing for Amarr. Ammatar got 2.5384%.
On same day I also did Materials for War Preparation for Caldari which gave me 0.7405% Caldari and 0.1865% for Amarr.
Uhh, a max standing mission giving about the same derived standing increase as the lowest.
A day after it was the opposite, doing "Case of Kidnapping" for Amarr which gave me 8.4% for Amarr as expected and 2.0232 for Caldari.
Anyone can explain this?
I was expecting that derived standing should be related to the standings between the empires or something

When you say "I only got x.yz% derived standings", I hope you mean the number you see in the "show transactions" window... correct ? If yes, then it must be some sort of bug. You should be getting precisely 4.2% Amarr derived for a 8.4% Caldari increase. If not... what exactly do you mean ? And I ask that because you say "8.4% for Amarr and as expected 2.0232 for Caldari", when the PROPER increase would have been 5.88% for Caldari.

Yes, I mean the numbers shown on "show transactions". And that by "expected" was a bad phrasing.
I think I understand why the Amarr derived standing was so low. I think I reached the cap (if it is 5 unmodified standing) and probably it will show you only the actual percent (up to the limit and I was close to 5).
Looking at previous derived standings however, derived standing for Amarr (from Caldari) has all been less than 30% of Caldari derived standing (for example 8.05% Caldari -> 2.3195% Amarr)

Hmm... I've had a corpmate (one who's long past 5.0 Amarr) check his derived standings gains too. To my shock, he reported that he actually had SOME derived standings gains listed, but get this, they're all listed as "50%". The weirdest one was with Mordu, listing a 0.3%-ish one, then only 90% ones. And not all of them are listed, just some, in the distant past. No recent ones at all.
So, yeah, apparently, when you're getting close to the cap (5 for caldari->amarr but 7 for amarr->caldari) the derived gains transaction listing gets... weird. Just jot down the actual standings before and after the mission and work the actual gains from there (if any).
The cap is always "how much the other empire likes the empire you're doing the storyline for".

I had those big ones when I returned to the game. I think they might be adjustments relating to the modification of the standings system (the caps being introduced, probably. I'm pretty sure we didn't have those in the cold old days).
