Edited by: Roymundo on 27/08/2008 16:29:52 hi guys.
i'm currently off on business in holland untill saturday, and i forgot to put some skill training on. i'm a little irked that i will miss these fews days training time.
the same goes for october when i leave my home in ireland to go to australia untill march.
aside from asking family members to do my skill training for me, is there any way i can this over the web? i understand if ccp are worried about character farming, but i will genuinly be travelling and i don't want to miss out on months of skill training time, #edit: especially as i will continue to pay my subscription#.
thanks for any help guys.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 27/08/2008 16:33:01 People have an irrational opposition to training queues, so don't expect those any time soon. As for remote skill changes, it'd be nice if we could log into somewhere on the Eve website and change skills from there. I mean, logging onto the website or logging on to the game... either way you have to be hands on for all of thirty seconds, training queue opponents.
edit: but no, you have to log into the game to change skills. Or have someone else do it (the first month of the two I spent in Ireland this summer was without a home internet connection, so I called up my brother and had him change over a skill .) He hates the notion of subscription-based games and I never heard the end of it. Now recruiting! Click FFS! :X |

since you dont need to be near your computer to train skills (just to start training) the solution its obvious: Set a long skill.
BTW:I doubt CCP will be worried if you ask for someone to change a skill.
My posts DOES reflect the view of my corp and ally... ..or a mistake they did when let me post. |

hmmm. this sucks.
a paying customer can't update his skill training while away from home. bast customer service that. i'm not looking for a queue, just some way, any way to do it via the internet while abroad.
i guess i'll just have to teach my brother how to do it, and leave him a list of skills to train.

Unfortunately that's what you'll have to do. Nobody seems to want to acknowledge that setting a long skill doesn't do much for those of us who's work sometimes requires long periods of time away from computer games. The other flaw with the "set a long skill" argument is that you don't always have a rank 6+ skill ready to train to 5, and in order to get one you may have seriously deviate from your training plan. Currently the longest skill I can train to the next level would only take 18 days. Now recruiting! Click FFS! :X |

They do it for a reason, they want people to keep logging in to EVE, seeing their beautiful pixels, maybe chatting a few lines to their corpmates. It probably has a strong effect on continuing membership, makes people keep their subscriptions longer. A skill queue or remote/mobile skill changes would lead to people logging out for a few weeks when GTA4 comes out, and maybe forgetting about EVE.

solution: install eve on a memory stick (go for one >1GB tbh), find a internet cafe that won't mind you running eve off a mem stick.
IIRC you can make a shortcut with "/end LUA:OFF" after the location to make the client save the cache files to the install location. --- Sig Starts Here --- Lord Haur - Imperial Academy Logistical Support

He pretty much told you all that is needed.
Basically, you install the classic client on to the memory stick (you can even simply copy the EVE folder to the stick), then create a shortcut (again on the stick), then add that LUA stuff to the command line for the shortcut and you are ready to go. All you have to do is make sure the pc you are plugging the stick in to can run the classic client. -=^=-

Another alternative is to run some form of VNC on your machine at home. This will allow you to remotely control your PC, including skill changing.
The game itself (like undocking and then fighting ) will be unplayable due to the lag in screen updates, but skill changing / market stuff does work as I've done it on several occasions. Windows remote desktop does not work though as it has no 3D ability and works in a very different way to VNC, although the end result is similar.

I'd like to point out, just 'cause I'm feeling ranty, that in any other MMO, not logging into game means no progression. I doubt many would complain to Blizzard that they're unable to get experience when they're away from the computer.
In that other game, you can't even put items up for sale for longer than 48 hrs...
I'll admit I wouldn't mind a one-skill deep queue or web access for skill adjustments, but throwing out the 'paying customer' bs for a feature that's not in the game is a bit much IMHO.
But years of retail makes the 'I'm a customer' bit make me feel stabby...
