Hi seen alot of threads about this lately so thought id share my method ( i agree a fix is long over due).
right click, sort by type, either the first or last bpo/bpc icon will be yer BPO.

Station containers are your friend (unless you start jobs remotely).

well i used a POS lab for ages and used remote alot, problem was when others dropped bpcs into corp hanger, if they cleared the labs ( being helpful and all that) and dropped the bpcs into the wrong corp hanger bpo's would mix with bpcs.

Unfortunately this doesn't always work ... as I've done exactly that, and my BPO almost always ends up somewhere in the middle of the 10+ copies.

BPCs should have a C in the corner, in a similar fassion to the IIs on T2 stuff

None of the other options call up the attributes of the item, it's merely using the same sorting as it does for any item, so the game is unaware if technically the item is a BPO or BPC (thus you can't give it a different icon in the items view).
The science and industry window does a call for all the attributes of all BP's in range (which is why it's alot slower to startup)
All that really needs to be done is a little bit of an improvement to that 'view' of BP's to allow better dragging and dropping etc (atm using the 'deliver to' is abit of a work around, but not as good).
Sorting by type will often put the BPO at the beginning end, but it's not guaranteed, it's sorting by typeID then by probably something like itemID, which means that usually all your BPCs will be created before/after your BPO, but sometimes you will have some BPCs given itemID's before and some after etc and the sorting will throw the BPO into the middle. (itemIDs being recycled often enough).

The sameness of originals and copies has one benefit, and that is that both show up the same on a cargo scan.

The sameness of originals and copies has one benefit, and that is that both show up the same on a cargo scan.
The main benefit is in performance, they're the same item type but with different attributes, when you open your items hangar at the moment it doesn't load the attributes for any item. In order to determine if something is a BPC you would have to (and thus do a table join), now add that to the assets list and multiply by the number of players that want to do it and you quickly have a huge performance hit.

Not quite. Having easly found the single ML100 BPC in a group of 20 ML60 BPC's on the industry tab, I can't drag and drop from there into my cargo hold. Instead, I still need to look through every BPC in the hanger to find the one worth building from (rather than inventing from)

If you're in a corp and have the right roles, you can right click the BP's in the Science and Industry window and deliver the BP you want to another hangar division, or another char's personal division. But yes, as you say the S&I window does need the ability to drag and drop added to it. THIS is what people should be asking for rather than a seperate icon for BPCs in the items window (which can't happen).
