I'm finally (almost) ready for my first command ship! But here's the thing, Sleipnir or Astarte? I'm mainly Gallente specced (lots of drones T2 blasters, armor tanking, and the like) but I hear great things about the sleip as well. I have mediocre shield skills and no T2 medium autocannons just yet, but I'm working on it. Do either of these ships have a practical role in mainly solo PvP? I've also heard that the Astarte moves like a brick compared to the sleip, which is why I'm leaning towards it.
So, whaddaya say?

both move like bricks compared to hac's but both put out tremendous hurt, have nice resists that make their tanks quite godly. However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

Astarte, armor tank is superior for solo, does more damage, tanks about as well, and fits better with your skills.

So, sounds like the Astarte then! I am aware that the Mega costs less and deals more damage in most cases, but that's not what I'm asking about.
So, would it be wise to start practicing with a brutix to minimize my losses? It's been a while since I've flown one tbh....

Edited by: Rawr Cristina on 27/08/2008 23:56:09 Astarte is a bit of a waste of ISK atm. Too slow and blasters don't exactly reach out. You'd be better off with a Mega, or even a Brutix/Myrm for PvP.

QFT, best bet is to not bother with the Astarte.

Neither TBH. Despite my personal hatred for CS, neither makes sense from a logical standpoint. Astarte is a bit crap to begin with and is getting hit really hard with the speed nerf. Sleipnir requires full t2 fit to even be considered at all, and even then I believe the hurricane is a better choice 9/10 times, after the nano nerf at least.

plz tell me the system that u use ur t1 fitted sleip LOL.
CS are good for pvp, especially if you want to stand out of the crowd. I dont care what ppl say, a cs IS better than a bc, if u dont mind splashing out for a nifty ship, use a CS, if ur poor use a BC.
Now i know cost/effectiveness blah but if some1 asks which cs plz dont say go fly X non cs ship its not what their asking
poudly annoying fc's since 2007

People didn't say fly Brutix (although not a bad idea for him). They said fly Mega, heh. Whether he asked it or not, it'd good advice. If someone's dead set on the ship they want to fly and unwilling to listen to advice, maybe they should pick their own ship rather than asking others to do it for them, eh? Picking between astarte and t1 fitted sleip, I mean, there is no right answer, except go buy a mega.

The Astarte is quicker then the Mega though, and its med guns make tracking less an issue. But in all honesty, I would fly the Absolution. Barring that, if you have near perfect shield and nav skills then the sleph is a pleasure.
I love it when people fly the Astarte - as a rapier pilot, I know to use on of my webs to slow down big things early untill the Astarte/Demios are on them - then its time to catch some other stuff for the blaster boys to chew up. Astarte can be a fun ship for roaming. ----

You can fit a mega to be faster/more nimble than an astarte but still maintain superior firepower/hp.
Tracking isn't really that big an issue right now, as medium blasters are too short ranged to be useful outside of web range, and within web range, a mega should hit no problem. With the web nerf this might change however.
Then again megas can and do fit heavy neuts, which is the bane of everything smaller than it.

Won't exist here shortly. Kind of silly to point the OP in a direction where by the time he's done skilling correctly, it's nerfed to hell and back?
Anyway, seriously, forget CS unless you're up to fitting gang links, training up mindlinks and have a gang to actually use it on. Train up racial BS 5/weapon 5 instead.

no i seriously think the ccp are just gonnna drop the nano-nerf as with the much-denounced carrier nerf, and never say another word about their blunder..a shame tho..i was polishing my nighthawk :( poudly annoying fc's since 2007

I highly doubt it. I'd personally gain a lot of respect for them if they scrapped their current changes and actually sat down and came up with some reasonable changes (as have been suggested by some of the players). It's not that they shouldn't do a little something about nanos (maybe ditch polycarbs, or just nerf them), and fixing some things like heavy precisions would also help. It's just that their current changes are still way too excessive and way too broad.
That said, I doubt they go back on them. I haven't seen anything by CCP suggesting they really plan to roll any back, with the exception of the scrambler's delay. That's a very narrow rollback though, and is a long way from taking these changes back to the drawing board, which imho is what they should do.

boz, watch the video linked in this thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=857207
Not a single mention of one of the biggest single changes possibly to hit EVE, he just goes on about bullshit faction warfare and how the next patch is making industry better (sure thats not bad but cmon, their pretending NOZH's blogg doesnt exist).
So the nano-whiners may be able to breath a small hopeful sigh of relief, im expecting this goes the same way the carrier nerf went poudly annoying fc's since 2007

If I was CCP, I think I would try to pretend Nozh never opened his mouth. From his casual, average joe vaga with HG snakes, to his "nerf nanos but keep them viable" changes that have obliterated nano hacs, screwed up BB's, required a missile rebalance, etc., I'd be mortified if I was CCP. That said, I haven't seen anything from them suggesting they feel the same way, even if they should, haha.
I'll check out the video after lunch tho biggie.
