I've been keeping track of the recent Chribba related thread, not only is it currently destined for forum legend itself for surely being the King of Threads in size, but if you stop to read some of the comments here.
People going as far wishing death apon the GM that moved these ships!
Now I won't rule myself out of this rage, but some comments were worse than mine.
And its funny.
It really is. Like a pack of rabid wolves we tore into CCP via the forums about the movement of a certain legendary ship and other High sec caps. This decision came from nowhere, unexpected.
Personally, I really wouldn't want to be on the recieving end of that.
EVE.. Cold and harsh? It is for the GMs.
The sheer scope of that thread exists solely as a visual representation of what the community in EVE stand for, what they don't stand for.. and when they quite simply refuse to take any more shit.
Oh, and I reckon Fanfest might be a bit... lively this year.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 28/08/2008 08:44:07 Only thing funny about it is, that every single one who screams "adapt or die" on these forums, was screaming "Noooo!!" on that thread
There's one forum meme down the "leg to stand on" drain.

A valid point, but its easier to adapt if we know about it first!

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 28/08/2008 08:49:25 Well honestly i just think it was a case of a;
Younger kid: "Hmm, no caps in highsec...move it!" Wrangler or some such coming along, smacking the kid on the head with a newspaper; "No, bad boy!" and clicking the "return" button

I'd have hoped the GM was fired or reprimanded. To be honest, if you annoy that many customers that quickly... well, Thats like me just turning off the telephony system for this call centre I maintain.
It'll kind of **** a few people off, and when i turn it back on (providing it turns back on)... I'll get my ass kicked.

I think it was perhaps a poorly thought out move that backfired on them. Once they realized just how badly they had messed up by the 30+ pages and growing thread of wtf! Give it back! they got as a response, they probably realized they had severly underestimated just what ships like the Veldnaught mean to new, middle and older players.
I would suspect they honestly did NOT expect such a rapid and massive response by the player base.
One of the things I like about EVE, the EVE community and CCP is that there IS a feedback mechanism that is actually LISTENED to and read. I played Everquest for years and I can count on one finger how many times I EVER saw SOE admit they had made a mistake in regards to the overall community and their views towards something unusual or unique.

I assume nobody was fired over this and rightly so.
It takes almost nothing to get a couple hundred GD forumites to get mouth-foamingly excited and full of unreasoned rage.
It also doesn't mean much.
You'd be surprised how many eve players never or very rarely read the forum and have no idea what you're talking about - or read about it after the fact and couldn't care less.
It takes only a tiny percentage of players to make a long thread.
You really think nano-whiners and most other "Big Issue Of The Week" posters are representative of the general Eve populace?
The majority of players are doing missions or rat/mine/trade/produce in empire. They often have no idea what the crazies on this forum talk about because it doesn't affect them one bit.
And people angry about an issue are much more likely to post here. People who are happy with things as they are usually just play the game.
The content of this forum section and the attitude of many of its most active writers have almost no relation to the mood and experience in the actual game.
Most people I meet in the game are friendly and helpful - quite the opposite of what you read here. Most of the people I meet in the game enjoy it and even though almost everybody has an opinion about what could be better it's not something that gets them excited and enraged to the levels we see here.

Yeah. If i read between the lines correctly, what happened was that some GM had to make a decission about the pressence of a high sec dread (not necessarily Chribba's). Maybe someone petitioned about it. Seeing no clear policy on how to deal with such a situation, he discussed it with his lead GM (the lowest level which would be needed to move more than just one dread) who found no clear exception policy, but just saw that they were originally able to enter high sec, but are now no longer supposed to operate there within their normal design parameters (IOW, using their tank and weapons). So he decided that since there were no policies and it was just a bit of legacy that was no longer possible, better to just remove all capitals to avoid more complaints. "Make it so!".
Enter threadnaught, they then realized that the decission, while understandable from a GM perspective was done too heavy handed and abrubt to be accepted (at least that was my qualm. All respect to Chribba but i snapped at the seeming randomness the decission. I just don't like playing a game where without advance warning suddenly a whole class of items is reorganized). So they cleared it up.
It would have been nice if CCP thought things trough before acting not just on the level of product development, but in game rule enforcement as well.

Edited by: Benco97 on 28/08/2008 09:41:13 Guys, nobody deserves to be fired over this. The ships should be returned and the person responsible for the decision should go "Whoops, Guess I need to think more about the players" and that's the end of it. Everyone goes away more experienced and happy.
I want them back but lets be honest, they are just Pixels on a screen like everything else here, it's really not worth someone losing their job and I imagine that even Chribba himself agrees with me (What with him being level-headed and sensible)
Edit- I just saw that at least Chribba's has been returned? That's great news, well done to the persons at CCP who did that.

As the GM so kindly pointed out, this was caused by CCP not having clearly defined rules about the empire caps. You can't blame GMs for using their own judgement in a situation where the rules are ambiguous ... and I'm sure they weren't blamed (although I'm equally sure that the GM in question will never hear the end of it, in good fun.) _

No it was CEO Hammerfall who faked a killmail where Chribba killed his frig in the Veldnaught and petitioned to CCP that started this whole debacle.
The GM's mistake was that he didn't investigate the matter nor read the thread where Hammerfall vowed to remove Chribba's Veldnaught from the game.
It's heartwarming that there's no real punishment for faking evidence and creating petitions with it....

Hammerfall is a dumb shit. He is probably a 15 year old kid with ADD, if what you says are true I will spend alot isk on griefing him out of game.
