I have a few questions about creating an Alliance, and thought this would be the best place to ask. I understand that it costs 1B ISK (!) to setup an Alliance, and I know that you recruit/ask Corps to join you, but here are my questions:
What are the Common "Benefits" that people look for, when joining an Alliance? (Is it lowsec/nullsec access? Is it the ability to have a mass of possible Corporations to support them if they're wardecced?)
When you're the "creator" of an Alliance, do you have the same abilities as someone would have if they were the CEO of a Corporation? (Can you kick our Corporations on a whim? Can you "flip a switch" and have all Corporations go to War? Does each Corporation have a "vote"? If so, does your vote count for more? Can you set the specific "Rules" as the creator of an Alliance?)
What are the Common "Cons" when it comes to running an Alliance? (Do bigger, meaner Alliances come after you regularly? Are there more "internal struggles" between Corporations in the Alliance?)
As a final question, what questions am I forgetting to ask? I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks.

* you can never wardec a single corp in an alliance, you can only wardec the entire alliance * only the executor corp can declare a war on behalf of the alliance... by all intents and purposes, the exec corp fills the same role a ceo fills in a corp * the executor corp is chosen by "majority support" of member corps * the main reason to have an alliance is the ability to claim Sov in a system (which means supercap manufacture ability, ability to own outposts, ability to put up cynojammers and other POS structures, etc) - for everything else, you might as well have members join your corp instead

The main reason people join alliances is to carebear in peace. It costs 2 million ISK to war-dec a corporation, 50 million to war-dec an alliance. As you can imagine, most people who are just in it for casual PVP will tend to war-dec corporations, not alliances. Most alliances exist solely for the reason of avoiding PVP... though they usually don't admit it, not even to themselves.

Ok. Question. Can an Alliance wardec a single Corporation then?

Yes, but the entire Alliance must participate in the wardec.

Also there's the ability to set standings that alliances offer over corps. Why? Who knows? But it's probably a pretty good ISK sink.
