Edited by: Verx Interis on 29/08/2008 21:49:15 Mostly out of curiosity, but also to show a few people the scale of Eve, I wanted to try to work a list of all the professions in Eve. I'm not concerned with how much you can get from it, as long as it's a legit method.
I'll update this post as more get mentioned that I didn't think of
Also, please try to keep whines/flames/rants out of here. I don't really give a damn about your opinion on X or Y so just forget about it.
The list (so far): -------------------- Mission Running Ratting Mining and selling minerals Mining and manufacturing Researching and selling BPCs Suicide Ganking Looting from PvP Ransoming Ninja Salvaging Selling invented BPCs Inventing and manufacturing Moon mining Moon mineral reactions Trading (buying and selling in the same station) Freighting (buying one place, selling another) Contract scamming
Offering various services: -------------------- Mercenary contracts Hisec labs
Anything not mentioned (preferably under services, that list is a bit pathetic right now) is appreciated.

When I first started playing I remember reading a post where some guy was offering his services as a Moon Surveyor. Basically he would go on contract to go survey all the moons in a sytem, constellation, whatever for a price per moon deal. I thought it sounded incredibly boring.

But! It did impress me that Eve appeared to be open enough to allow people to make up their own fee for service sort of deals.

i think you should add general scamming into it. ive been scammed big but it wasnt a contract scam. it was a social engineering scam.
but yeah i would put scamming in general in there.

You make a point.. but services is the thing where you get paid to do boring things for other people. Basically, it needs a client to be a service.
So while it is a service to the general eve community, it can't go there.
I also added the OOG ISK making methods, except for trolling for ISK, which is basically forum posting.

Anyway, this thing was accessible via the igb and actually made him some iskies while it ran for it's relatively short lifespan.

IMHO these are the wrong distinctions. Instead: - Trader: buys stuff to sell for profit (doesn't matter where) - Hauler: Moves stuff for others for a fee (the fee is usually based on volume and distance but value can play a role)
And it's effectively double listed under "other" and "services" --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Financial services: Banking, for example (there are a few). IPO Investor can probably be considered a profession too, as well as Shares Trader.
Volunteering in ISD programs, can that be considered a profession? I think so even if it does not pay isks.
And what would have been the profession of Innominate Nightmare? Blogging? It sure as hell was enjoyable for both him and the others, and it did earn him money (and love and respect, he's surely missed by many).
Running ingame games (poker, lottery etc)
As you listed "Making websites" you'd probably also have to list "Making OOG tools", there're many of those that do not involve websites (EveMon, EFT, EHQ, ESM etc.)

Added under jobs: -Making Eve minigames (Out of game) -Item reprocessing (Industry) -Investing in an IPO (Other) -Making OOG tools (Out of game)
Added under services: -Consultation -Renting Hisec POS abilities (removed "Renting hisec labs") -Running an IPO -Mission salvager (Closer to a service as it is cliented)
Changed "Ninja Salvaging" to "Ninja looting/salvaging"
Originally by: Saju Somtaaw I'm not sure the ISK farmer one should be under "Griefing"
I already explained this one.
Originally by: Glengrant Edited by: Glengrant on 30/08/2008 15:44:15 -Trading (buying and selling in the same station) -Freighting (buying one place, selling another)
IMHO these are the wrong distinctions. Instead: - Trader: buys stuff to sell for profit (doesn't matter where) - Hauler: Moves stuff for others for a fee (the fee is usually based on volume and distance but value can play a role)
And it's effectively double listed under "other" and "services"
There are freighters who don't offer a service or clients, just have a few characters watch the market, and buy some stuff, move it, and sell it in a new place.
For those who charge a fee, they are now under Courier, which encompasses those who accept courier contracts as well.
Originally by: WishBlade I don't see "AFK Cloaking" on the list. It's a serious profession locking down systems
Are people actually cliented out to do it and, thus, the recipient of money for this activity?

Doesn't matter where you "trade" to. Buying to sell elsewhere at (often ludicrous)profit is called Profiteering.
Now if you excuse me I have to get back to my carpetbaggery...
Trader might be for the people who simple sell their items unreprocessed to any order on the market that pleases them.
Much too tame a genre for my activities. Live and Let Die...All of it...null |
